Hey Luvlumps,
Assuming your running Widcomm on your laptop....
On your laptop:
Double-click "My Bluetooth Places"
Click "View My Bluetooth services"
Click "View or modify configuration"
Click the "Local Services" tab
Click "Add Serial Service"
In the "General Tab" , type "Activesync" and take note of the COM Port
Click the "OK" button.
You should see Windows do it's thing of installing a new serial port.
Now, double click your activesync icon in the taskbar.
Click the File menu and select "Connection Settings..."
Check the "Allow connections to one of the following:" and enter the COM Port number you just added.
On your AX,
Go to your BT Manager, make a new shortcut and select Activesync via Bluetooth
Select your paired laptop
Your activesync you just created should show up
If this doesn't work....
Make sure your COM Port number is less than 10.... I've read somewhere that Activesync doesn't support COM Ports more than 10.... hence having to remove phantom COM Ports....
If all else fails, you may have to do a hard reset on your Ax and start from scratch.
Hope this helps...

I can pair with my stereo heaset and get music perfectly. I paired with my Moto Razor and can use it as a modem. I have paired with my laptop but I can't sync over BT. Here's the deal... Old Dell Latitude with no builtin BT. I bought an IOgear dongle and it comes with a widcomm stack. All kinds of services available. I can use file transfer with no problem. I can't for the life of me figure out this activesync crap over BT. I noticed in the services on the Ax there is activesync over BT listed; there is NO such service in the laptop stack. Is this the problem? Is there a place I can find the Widcomm stack for Win XP that will match the stack I loaded on the Ax? I looked under Bluetooth: About and it shows:
Bluetooth for Windows CE
BT-PPC Version 1.7.1 Build 3400
This came from the forum on this site about the state of development of the widcomm stack
BTW - I've read about using the MS stack vs. the Widcomm but unfortunately, this is a work laptop with a custom rollout of Win XP that does not have the MS drivers.
