Worried Re Odyssey Client

I have a friend in Europe who has Dell Axim 50 and uses Odyssey to get Wi-Fi connection.
I live in CA, and I use Dell Wlan Utility on my Axim 51v.
What is the difference? Can I use Odyssey ?

Odyssey Client is a supplicant for users wanted to connect to a network that uses beefed-up security -- like my university network requires users to authenticate themselves using LEAP. The Dell WLAN Utility can't do this, but with Odyssey, I can get on the campus-wide Wi-Fi

If you don't need to use Odyssey (for corporate-level security such as krhainos describes at his university) then I would not bother with it. It can be a bit of a memory hog.

I don't in CA. I connect via Axim WLAN, which has been working just fine for me.
But a friend of mine in Europe had no choce but to connect via Odyssey.

Again, unless he was connecting to a network with corporate security, he probably didn't 'need' to use Odyssey, but some people find it easier than figuring out the proper settings in the WLAN.

In any case, I was just pointing out that you'd be better off not using it if you are currently connecting OK. Even starting it once can cause some memory problems (it adds itself to the startup folder or the registry).

I understand. Apparently he should have done "better homework" in order to avoid using Odyssey, so I wrote to him to try again.
