Tagged PDF conversion problems

Hi,

Anyone know how to solve this problem? When I move a PDF document that I just created to my Windows Mobile directory, it gets converted to a tagged file. When I view the tagged file on my Axim using Adobe Reader 2.0, anytime there are italics or underlines in the document, there are little boxes appearing instead wherever the font changes to italic or underline. The italics or underline are not being converted. Not sure how to fix this font problem. I contacted the makers of CutePDF, but no reply yet. I won't even bother with Adobe, as they do not appear to support their product.

By the way, the PDF document using the free utility CutePDF Writer, but I guess the problem could apply to any PDF creation utility.

Thanks for any help,
Tim

i don't ever "let" my PDA convert files.... i put the PDF onto a SD card using a card reader, and move the data that way. the files open without problem using Adobe Reader for ppc 2.0.

i've opened everything from manuals, to panflips... everything, and it works fine. all italics, bold, underline and font-changes, are properly used.

try to avoid using Activesync to transfer the file (where it would be inclined to 'convert' it), and see what happens.

No, this problem is more complex than that.

Tagging is necessary so that Adobe can display the PDF in reflow mode. I definitely want my PDA to convert the file, otherwise it's impossible to read. I guess you don't use your PDA to read PDF documents or you would very soon get tired or scrolling back and forth.

Maybe the problem is related to limited fonts on my PDA. If I could add more fonts, perhaps one of them would match the font I am transferring from the desktop. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

might want to try something else

Unfortunately, I am skeptical that you will find a great solution. I have found Adobe Reader for PPC to be quite imperfect.

I tend to use Repligo for PDF files. If you are willing to pay for it, it is a great piece of software.

But I really wish Adobe would get their act together on this.

I tried Repligo. It's an inferior product that is not supported by their developers. They haven't released an update for the pocket pc platform for several years. As well, Repligo does not display images in reflow mode, while Adobe does...plus Adobe is free. Not much to compare there.

I will keep working on this, but if anyone has found a solution that they use, please let me know.

If the pdf is simple enough in structure, Adobe does a decent job of adding tags automatically. You can try running the document through Adobe Professional (I think Standard has this also). The Touch Up Reading tool isn't bad for fixing tags.

But that isn't a free solution. Have you tried updating Adobe reader? ActiveSync? Maybe that will help.

Also, OpenOffice can export tagged-pdfs but I think the source document must already be well-structured.

Lastly, adding fonts: I use FontOnStorage (http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=726). I put fonts onto a storage card, and when I need the fonts I run the program. Just copied some fonts from my Windows/Font folder to SD card.
