Worried Don't want to pay Dell on-call HELP...

I want to set up my Axim x51v so that I can use my Cingular Samsung D357 as a bluetooth modem. I got as far as pairing cell with Axim and Axim acknowledged serial port usage on its end and cellphone acknowledged serial port and object push on its end. Transferred a address book file to axim with no problem HOW TO SET UP DATA COMMUNICATION THOUGH. Dell acts as if its a big secret or is it my phone is the problem?

Gimme a minute while I hunt down the link... It's somewhere here on Aximsite.

Here you go, the Wireless Communications section.

Also, try Ted's Bluetooth Guide

I saw something like Tom's bluetooth guide but that only discusses older models of the Axim. My Axim doesn't even have the bluetooth manager that he showed.

That thread was from 2004. My Axim does exactly this:

Already paired Axim to Samsung D357
On cell it shows services as object push and serial port.
goto connections in Aximx51v
select add a new modem connection
in select a modem i have the following
bluetooth
hayes compatible on com1
generic IrDA

I choose bluetooth
click new partnership
choose my phone
then i get a window which shows ONLY SERVICES to use serial port with a check box which i check for yes serial port
hit finish and it just sits there.......................nothing else happens no ok, no thank you no nothing...same on phone no changes

what is the problem...?

so do i, you think I should call them and ask why dial up networking is not being transmited to axim as a bluetooth service?

on the phone it list it as one of its 7 bluetooth services.

now, i've never tried to do ANY of this, so take my advice as you may, however, i really need to ask...

have you tried the widcomm BT stack?

in my experience, i couldn't get the MS BT stack to do much AT ALL, its just useless imo. the widcomm stack is definately the way to go. it might not be perfect, but at least it has a history of working. rather than the BT stack, where all i really ever hear is complaints.

Them being.... your cellular company? Dell? And whose cellular service do you subscribe to? Also, try looking in the GPRS Settings Thread to see if somebody else has your model of phone.

Edit: I just realized that you have a WM5 device, and my experience is with my WM2003se device. My advice would probably not be entirely applicable. Therefore, try searching through the settings/use as modem threads for answers. Even if the threads started older, there will be some updated information in them; many of the stickied threads have their initial post updated on a weekly basis, to stay current.

OK, I hope this explanation helps.

Bluetooth has different profiles for different uses and you require the DUN profile to successfully use your phone as a modem. You would also need the File Transfer protocol to transfer files. It seems your phone/ Axim combo supports only two types of connections serial port profile ans Object Push Profile.
the OPP profile is used to push Contacts and other such small files to a device and the serial port profile is primarily for low bandwidth accessopries like GPS.

It is possible that the profile exists but is disabled by Cingular. I don't know.

You could also try establishing a dialup connection as "hayes compatible on COM*" through BT but that hobbles the speed to 115Kbps and I do not know if your phone/ carrier will support serial dial up connections.
