If you go "Tools" - "Options" - "devices" there is a list of what media player can see, just configure the sync settings with the card, not the device.
Not necessarily, if you click on the device Icon, which located when you select the Sync tab on top, on the top right of WMP 11 it will show you the amount of memory left, just click on it until it shows Storage Card which should have the largest amount of memory free. Then you need to select your music by either right clicking it or dragging it to the "sync" column.
It looks like MS disabled that ability to sync WMP11 to removeable storage cards. Synching to storage cards worked in Beta 1 & Beta 2 but feature disappeared in final release. I love the new interface, but I'm contemplating reverting back to WMP10 to get back syncing functionality.
A thread in the MS Windows Media Forum seems to confirm this. Read the thread "Recognizing Storage Card".
I have been using WMP 11 to sync music to my X30, the only problem I have had is when it is syncing, it will lose the connection and I have to try an reconnect. It will do this several times until all my music is transferred over. Other than that, I can see my storage card. Im using Win2003SE on my PDA and 3.8 Active Sync, I dont know if that has anything to do with it. When I upgrade to x51v and 4.2 Active Sync, I will let you know if I have the same problem.
Okay, I got it to work now. Back up your device and files first because it is a little complicated, but here we go.
Step One
-In the main device directory delete the file WMPInfo.xml
-Delete the \Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\ directory and all of the files in it including the WMDRM folder.
-Delete the \Music folder
Step Two
-Go to your storage card main directory and delete the file WMPInfo.xml
-Delete the folder \CF Card\MSMETADATA
-Delete the folder \CF Card\WMDRM
-Delete the folder \CF Card\Music
Step Three
-Repeat step two for any other storage cards.
Step Four
-Refresh devices in WMP and the storages card should show up in the left tab and in the sync window you can click “Next Device”
Thanks for everyone’s input to keep me motivated to try to fix this problem!
I am using build 11.0.5721.5145. I have switched back to version 10 and although I really miss the search feature of WMP11, I'm happy to be able to sync my music to my PPC again.
The sync feature never worked for me in WMP11. About 50% of the time, the sync would fail after a few tracks with an error that it couldn't access the files. Sometimes it would recover when I reconnected, but most of the time the problem persisted.
I cannot look at my build right now because I am using my Axim. I know that it should be the latest because when I check for updates there are none.
I found that my syncing problems were caused by my axim and not WMP11. Syncing directly to a storage card (- usb card reader) gave me a lot of errors, even with unlicensed music.
After following the steps in my last post I have had no problems through the cradle with unlicensed music, and music purchased through Wal-Mart, MSN, and Urge. I posted the same steps on the Microsoft page and some user stated that it worked for them.
Maybe you should try WMP11 again. It really is nicer.
Justice_AA, I was skeptical, but I reinstalled WMP11 and followed the steps you outlined and it worked! Thank you! I'm synching up some music as I write this and I'm not getting any errors.
maybe there was a small bug in the syncing to cards in WMP11 and they just removed instead of fixing it like they did for wifi syncing in Activesync4 and above.
