Hi, I just moved over to the x51v and I'm having a problem with needing to soft reset more than I am accustomed to. I have been a long time user of PPC since my first Casio e-105 in 1997. Since then I have had many others including other Casios, Toshiba, and Ipaq. Given my experience, I am noticing that I need to reset a lot. In particular, I have to reset the x51v before I use wifi and also activesync.
In the case of wifi, when I turn on the radio, the system often freezes while trying to initiate wifi. If I subsequently reset, all is fine. I can turn off/on wifi without problems. However, if I turn off the x51v and try to restart wifi, the system is freeze. Another reset solves the problem. Any suggestions or advice.
In the case of activesync, it often does not initiate a sync when I cradle the x51v. If I try manually to active a sync from the x51v, it will not sync. My desktop recognizes that I've cradled the x51v by a dong sound but no further. If I reset the x51v, then all is fine. This problem occurs frequently but not all the time like the wifi problem. Again, any suggestions?
I have an A12 ROM along with SD and CF. I am thinking one or more of my programs is causing the problem. My most recent additions are iLaunch and PocketWeather.
Any advice before I go through a hard reset and reconfiguration?
I know it sounds odd but I've heard bad things about PocketWeather and it could be that it is constantly trying to check for weather updates and somehow breaking your networking system. Try uninstalling it then doing a soft reset and see if that helps.
You shouldn't be having to reset before using wifi or activesync, as you say, it seems to be a software conflict.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have removed Pocket Weather and have the same results.

I've never had any issues with PocketWeather.
What does your PDA show that is is running? How many Today plug-ins do you have?

I don't know if this will help...but I installed iLaunch a few days ago and my wifi quit working. I don't know if it was the program or not, but I have had to do a hard reset and start adding programs one at a time to see what works. So far my wifi works, and I haven't reinstalled iLaunch.

I've uninstalled iLaunch with the same results. So, in my case iLaunch doesn't seem to be the culprit.
I have also turned off Wisbar Advance 2 with the same outcome. I even did a hard reset and restore with the same results. I am dreading the next step which is to do a complete clean install. But it might come down to this.
or u can call dell for a replacement that doesn't sound normal
Thanks for the suggestion. However, the problem doesn't appear after fresh hard reset. It appears only after it is loaded with my software. I believe there is one or possibly two culprits that are interferring with the system. I think I will have to bite the bullet and start from scratch. Giving a few more days of my life to make this device work properly is worth it...isn't it????
I have to reset my X51 several times a day, with no extra programmes installed at all. Calls to Dell have simply indicated that I have to live with it (I've already lived with it since January!).
I have been using PDAs since my first Casio in 1990, including Psion, Palm, Sony and Toshiba. and the Dell is by far the flakiest and the most unreliable. Yes, I've upgraded to A12, which cured neither this problem or any others
I don't have any problems with my x51v except the false battery latch errors which have been reduced by using tape and the screen corruption which I'm tryin my best to avoid.

I have iLaunch and my WiFi works great. For me, the Soft Reset culrpit was BattMemTime. Once I removed it (and swithced t Batti), the problem seemed to resolve itself

Well, I've finally found the source of the problem. The problem is linked to the ThinkOutside driver for the IR keyboard. It has a switch to allow for coexistance of the IR keyboard and the x51v beaming function. However, with the switch on, WLan Utility hangs. After switching the coexist ability off, the WLan works as expected. The Activesync reset problem has also gone away (maybe just coincidence). I just don't understand how an IR driver affects the WLan switch but it does somehow, at least on my machine.
