So guys, Do you think the ROM update didn't find its way to Dell's Web servers? Someone should show the right way... in case it got lost just like all the others have!!!
I just want to say I had an X50v and did the WM05 upgrade, and the OS was wonderful... but with all the problems... if dell had refused to give me an X51v, I woudl have rolled back to PPC2003se. However, the dell rep I talked to made NO MENTION of there EVER being a patch to WM05/X50 so I am suspicious that the X50 line is dead and that, if anything, there will be an X51 update comming out and someon gave out some misinformation...
Personally, I think Dell has dropped all PDA developement, as has been said in several threads. Though, admitantly, can anyone find a more advanced pwoerhouse than the X51v? especially if you get the 128mb ram upgrade? Most of what's out there is in the 200-400mhz range, while we're at 624mhz. I mean, sure it'd be great to have 1ghz, but hell, lets with for a 2.7thz desktop for Xmas while we're at it... it' snot gonna happen till the competition is neck-in-neck with the X51, only THEN will dell get off it's tail and acctually develope it summore (outside of a possible patch for WM05se that MS is gonna release, and any subsequent MS upgrades that trickle down)
And no offence to any dell reps here, but you guys *do* have a bit of a track record about updates that never happen... MAye R+D is lieing, maybe marketing is lieing, or maybe whoever the top CS/TS rep is has been smoking osmething other than tobacco... I dont know, but I'm like everyone else, I dont beleive in updates till I see them on the site myself (and that image you posted? give me 5 minutes with photoshop/GIMP and I can have one even mroe reliztic than a real one! sorry, but true...)

Back in the spring, it would seem that Dell support reps were specifically told to lie to those who were calling or asking for tech support online. There are many, many, many accounts where customers were told that a patch was coming for the X50/v, and even gave a specific date. When I called, the rep told me it would be released February 6, 2006. I clarified, and asked him again. He told me for sure on February 6. I asked if they would give me an X51v if the patch did not come out by February 6, and he said there would be no concern, because there would be a patch.
I think he actually believed what he was telling me, which means that someone in the upper levels of Dell was specifically instructing their customer and tech support agents with information they knew to be false. :hide:
Course, the good thing that came of this was that I had documented my calls to Dell, so it made it quite easy to get a free replacement X51v. :rolling:
(In Finland, power outages are pretty common in the countryside when there are storms - for example, a major home consumer power outage was some 2-3 days ago, which took some half a day to fix, depending on the region.)
I will still have hope. If that is really a pic of A02 WM5 and its for the X50v it will have to be released someday unless dell is really stupid enouth to scrap something thats already complete. It just wouldnt make sence.

X50v WM5 Unofficial A03 (WM5 AUK 3.5.2)
PPC6700 WM5 AUK 3.5.2
Usually, the power goes out for a couple of days 2-3 times a year. Not a big deal. I ended up leaving my parents and family to fend for themselves by going to town and enyjoying my friends wireless high-speed internet, Xbox Live, and working electric lights. Ahhh. :)

also axim x60 was completed...and will never come...
I believe that there will not be an X60, but I don't believe that there was ever one designed to begin with. The problem is that given the current market the only thing they could do to improve the appeal of the X51 series is to give it more internal storage in the form of a microdrive or something similar, or a bit more RAM. This would make it a killer portable media device but then people wouldn't see the versatility of the fast processor or windows mobile, it would be "just another media player" rather than PIM, games, and all the other great things you can use the X51 for. The UMPC is already far beyond what this supposed X60 could ever provide.
There also aren't really any processors that support Windows Mobile that are faster than is currently in the X51v, they could give a slightly larger screen but I think Micro$oft would no longer allow it to be called a PocketPC as they define the standard for naming the device and the screen has to be smaller than 4" to be a PocketPC, larger than that is a UMPC which would have to have an x86 based processor and would no longer be compatable with pocket pc software.
I'm sorry Juraj, but without *any* actual evidence (some photoshop-able screenshot does not count) I think you are just taking the kind and trusting people here for a ride.

i have no photos:) but you hit it, there was "high" version with hdd :) but was based still on x51v..vga display 3.7", more ram. 256 mb by normal version or 512 mb by high version etc..but last testing was done in august 2005 so projekt is death :realmad:
There a Prototype hovering around in there by any chance :)
If thats RAM your talking about 256MB would be like HOLLY CRAP and 512 would be like MOTHER OF GOD! What could you not run at the same time with space like that.
Though im wondering how the batt would hold up with all that ram. Hmm..
128MB ram would have helped us a lot though without killing out batts too much.
I still might get that upgrade sometime here.

X50v WM5 Unofficial A03 (WM5 AUK 3.5.2)
PPC6700 WM5 AUK 3.5.2
I've never, ever, ever needed any more RAM then my x51v can provide. A HDD would be cool, but i could just get a nice 8gb CF card for storage. All I want from Dell is two ROM updates. Either WM5 or WM6 for the x50 series, and WM6 for the x51 series when it comes out.
Listen up Dell! You NEED to do this. Don't send thousands and thousands of top-of-the-line devices down the drain. It may not make you more money now, but it would gain you loyal customers, and it would save us lots and lots of work and headaches. I'm 18. I'm trying to save up for college. I can't shell out another 400 bucks for a new device, just because you won't give us updates. If you want loyal customers, provide them with lots and lots of ROM updates. The reason that I abandoned HP was because they never provided me with ROM updates. The few that they released were all excellent, but I was pissed when they didn't offer me a WM5 update for my device.
I ended up selling it on eBay, and the buyer claimed that he never received it, and I lost $200. The moral of the story: Never buy from HP, and buy shipping insurance.
Imagine if Dell released a stable ROM update for the x50 series! Suddenly, they would gain value again, but they could still be affordable. People would be buying up leftover or used ones left and and right for affordable prices. You could charge 30 dollars for the update, and if it was solid enough, you'd probably sell lots and lots of updates. Maybe that would keep the PDA as we know it alive a little longer.
Do what is right for us, the consumers, and do what is right for the entire PDA market.
