yea ill believe it when I see it of course then it'll be a different story but I have an x51v so I don't really care about the x50 series update but they better release an update the same day for the x51 series that resolves my only 2 problems 1)the screen corruption and 2)the false battery latch issues.
I think it was 6 months ago I read something on this site saying that support for the X50 series and later had been completely dropped and that combined with Dells support record makes me very suspicious of this announcement.
In terms of the product cycle the x50\50v is so old now that I really cannot see Dell bothering - still, I hope that I am wrong...

By looking at the first post and the proposed fixes, ALL this "new" ROM is will be the implementation of minor fixes that X51 users were able to apply with a simple patch. There will be NO fixes of ALL the things which really cripple the X50 series running WM5. Please do not hold out hope that the miracle fix is coming. This is coming from a previous X50v owner, who applied every hack, talked to Dell for hours, and finally got a replacement X51v, which I love (minus the Activesync issues...).
With all due respect Juraj, the Dell employees that "support" us users also work for Dell, and they clearly don't know what they are talking about when it comes to future ROM availability.
Or maybe Dell sends the accurate information to whatever group you are in at Dell, but doesn't send it to the support guys
I'll believe this when it's available on the Dell's Web Site. Not gonna get my hopes up though.... but it would be a big Bonus and would cheer me up after failing to get my x50v upgraded to x51v...
AKU2 for WM5 does solve a lot of the compaction issues but compaction still takes place because it is necessary for WM5 to function reliably. Because the x50/x50v do not use the type of flash ram that WM5 was built for, any compaction can cripple the device at times.
It will improve the performance of WM5 on the x50 series but don't expect "problem free" operation. It's just not possible on non-native WM5 devices.
Interesting stuff DK. Do you have links that you can share with me regarding compaction and Aku2. Microft documentation perhaps, for me to read into? Thanks.
I will send you my notes on compaction which I took at a MS conference on Windows Mobile development when I get back to my house tomorrow. PM me your e-mail address and I'll get them over to you.

If they are not restricted by an NDA or similar agreements, it would probably be interesting for a lot of forum members to read these notes. :-)
