guys.. I have an X50V

and I did the upgrade to WM5 once.. only to find out that incredible and annoying LAAAAG on everything I do with the pocket pc...

never had other problem with WM5.... but I found that there were NO WAY to get out of the "NEW" memory feature that made that LAG on everything...

so.. after suffering a 5-7 seconds wait to launch small apps like the calculator (sigh) I decided to go back to WM2003SE...

so..THE BIG QUESTION IS...

IS THAT LAG STILL PRESENT on this WM5 update (A02) ???

cheers!

Michelangelo, even on A01, I was able to eliminate some of the tremendous lag by waiting about an hour after the initial hard reset (learned from big_redfox here on aximsite) before continuing with adjusting the screen and the remaining setup.

Currently I'm still in the middle of reinstalling all my software after the A02 upgrade today, but the lag does not seem to exist.

I'm up here reading and writing to keep myself occupied during some of the install process. Right now, I've hit my first apparent snag in the A02 upgrade process. I started sync'ing inintially with my work PC through PocketMirror (which for some crazy reason changes the name of my device). So then I stopped the sync, renamed my device, and sync'd limited choices successfully. Then, in AS4.2, I changed the name of Windows PC, to Work PC, and AS is currently hung up.

I did notice that syncing with my work PC was tremendously faster with A02 than with A01. An initial sync with A01 after a hard reset took literally over an hour (over a thousand contacts off our server to sync). Under A02, this initial sync took less than 10 minutes. I was really shocked and wonderfully surprised.

Now if AS will unhang . . .

I'd like to share a simple idea...

If dell wants to make sure oyu own the "broken" A1 rom that you bought... why not just require you to enter the lisence key off the CD? Wouldn't that eliminate all the crap of installing A1 just to get to A2?

I wonder if Dell pushed this upgrade on through bc it was tired of tiving away X51s...

"Lag" is usually used to describe an amount of latency in an online game.

The new memory feature is not present on the x50 series, even when running wm5. It still uses RAM, like all Wm2003 devices.

My x51v isn't slow. The problems that you had were due to errors that dell never fixed.

New rom ROcks!

1º Boot faster

2º Memory consumption of applicatrions is wonderfool (inicially 30mb free then with almost every thing loaded i still got 25 mb free)

3º Speed is amazing ... more than wm2003se (no more filesys.exe stutering)

4º wifi reception far better !!!

it is what every one was waiting !!! if you can ...go for it

now i'm in love again of my x50v :approve:

I have noticed few times my x50v with a02 would slow down, and even after closing all the apps the cpu would stay at 624mhz. I checked the cpu usage and it say Idle process is around 95% but the system is laggy. So I left it alone for about 5 mins or so, the cpu speed dropped to 208 and then the lag went away. I am not sure whats going on. But I have to say, even at best performance the responce rate is still slower on x50v a02 then on my old x5adv.

Not even the X51 is faster than X50-2003se. It contradicts the ROM vs RAM rule.

I was initially scared off from installing WM5 on my X50M, but after this update, I installed last night. Everything went fine, even though it took well over an hour for the complete 'A01 > A02' process. I don't use my Axim heavily, except when I travel, so it'll get some usage next week on my trip to Nashville. :) I'll try to report anything of note.

I want to know when and where frenchie is driving his car off the cliff.I have some air miles to blow and would like to see that.In case anyone forgot, here is the quote.

"If there ever is a release for an updated WM5 version on the x50 series then I will personally go and drive my car off a cliff (with me not in it). It will never happen. (sarcasm!!!)

As a previous poster once mentioned and I'm sorry i forgot your name, "Rumors like this are as solid as farts in the wind." He couldn't have said it any better!"
