I'm guessing we will all be disappointed by this time tomorrow . . . .
No not disappointed just reassured that Dell will not be releasing a new ROM for us X50v owners.

Think about it from a business perspective. WM5 SE is soon coming. Sounds like Dell will also be releasing a new PDA with a faster processor and larger memory.
One would think that Dell would want to keep its followers happy so that the will not jump ship.
Has anyone else called in and verified that they DO plan on releasing it 12/12/06 (tomorrow)?
honestly i dont really care if its posted or not,i have an x51v. id just like to see if Dell still is working on the x50 series, however if they was planning on pos6ing this rom upgrade they would not be still replacing x50(v)s with x51(v)s,so imma lil skeptical about this.
It's something like this that enabled me to get my replacement X51v. I had record of being promised that an upgrade to the X50v was coming out on a specific date - something I received from more than one Dell customer rep, and tech support rep. The stories of a promised ROM upgrade were so similar that it was evident that Dell was telling them to tell this to their customers.
If there is no upgrade tomorrow, I would urge every X50v owner who was promised an upgrade by December 12 to ask for a new X51v. In fact, if I was an X50v owner, I would call today, and see what they say - be sure to keep track of the case number, rep's name, etc.
I'm not anti Dell at all, and I believe Dell is getting better at regaining their name in the customer service department, but I also believe they should be held accountable if they lie. I'm really hoping that they are being truthful this time, but I do have my doubts.
I will have faith. Ive waited this far. So far my X50v has been a reliable champ with me at school with WM2003SE but I do have a hankering to put it to WM5 for temporary times just to mess around with it a bit. (the browser is better as well as D3D support for pocket golf and such.
It is the compaction thread that kills it for me. Anything installed on the main memory causes the pda to slow down a lot and it also generates a lot of heat. If they could fix this to make it a minimal issue as well as fix as many of the other problems as possible. Heck with the ammount of time they have had they could fix a lot.
We can only hope. Tomorow we shall see.
If its true and it is a wonder patch... Well I guess thats merry christmas from Dell lol.

I have been reading about the compaction thread, but I have some doubts.
If I install as much as possible on CF or SD do the X50 still suffer a lot from the compaction issue?
Is there any hack to move the System Temporary folders to CF/SD cards?
Thanks.
I saw this thread and had been avoiding reading it, but finally succumbed tonight.
After reading this I am reminded of the story of the woman who came into the den during the football game that was on TV and upon seeing the play being shown on instant replay said to the men in the room, "Maybe he'll catch it this time".
