While I have an X51v I would like X50 users who legitimately bought the WM5 update to get some support and an update as they really got the short end of the stick with WM5.
But, still, I'm not buying the idea that there's an update without some proof.

If the compaction problem of the X50 hasn't been fixed then this update is useless. I'm expecting to see a lot of failed upgrades (following and not following instructions alike) and bricked axims just like the A12 upgrade utility.
I believe you are a cynic dvmed, and I am afraid you will probably be right. Even if there is an update I expect the day after it is released to see a whole swarm of threads detailing how people turned their X50s into paperweights, either through not quite following the instructions properly, or their computer crashing at a bad moment, or just general weird issues.
Quite why so many consider WM5 an absolute neccessity and are willing to risk a paperweight I don't know. Granted it has some nice features, but WM2003 and a recent backup is just as good from what I can tell.

For the record, mokubai, I am only cynical when it comes to three topics concerning Dell, and they are not without basis. 1. I don't recall any upgrade utility wether it be Dell or HP that has as many complaints as that of A12. 2. MS Bluetooth even with A2DP is still crippled. Thanks to the widcomm stack I dont have to live with it. 3. Compaction problem with X50 and WM5.
They gave me a reason to be cynical. You wont see me saying anything but positive things for example, with the widcomm stack and the next upgrade. If being realistic is cynical, then I am a cynic.
Sometimes it just pays to stick with something that works for a change. I bought my X50 2 years ago - it has ROM A02 (WM2003SE) in it and it has been rock solid since then. Everything works. Instead of constantly upgrading the thing I've gotten 2 years of use out of it.
I must admit, the A12 update is very cryptic, and not very well put together.
Sorry if I offended, it wasn't my intention, and I wasn't meaning to say that being cynical is a bad thing. With computing and especially where large companies are concerned it is best to be cynical, they're always looking to put the best face they can on things, even the blatant flaws and horrible mistakes. Compaction on the X50 WM5 and horribly crippled bluetooth on the X51 are good examples of how they've been trying to say "It isn't as bad as you think, honest!"
I think it was 6 months ago I read something on this site saying that support for the X50 series and later had been completely dropped and that combined with Dells support record makes me very suspicious of this announcement.
