What do you have as mass storage? What is your SD/CF slots strategy?

What do you have as mass storage?

What do you use your SD/CF slots for?

It is also interesting to see how many people did RAM upgrade from 64MB to 128MB and if it is worth.

1 GB SD Sandisk Ultra for files, 2 GB SD generic for less important things, like the wikipedia. Programs installed to ROM/BIS.

- 4 gig CF for programs and general files I want all the time
- various 2 gig SD for other files, personal, work, etc etc......

You can upgrade RAM to 128mb, surely that would be worth it giving double the ram?

I would also be interested to hear about this.

1 GB Sandisk Ultra II SD card
2 GB Kingston 50x CF card

-SD contains most programs (a few essential ones are installed to onboard x51v RAM especially those that are loaded at startup like iLauncher, AE Button, Magic Button, and other frequently used programs.), primary GPS maps, eBooks

-CF contains mp3s, games, secondary GPS maps.

1 1gb Mini SD with Adapter
1 2gb Mini SD with Adapter
3 1gb Sandisk SD
1 2gb Sandisk SD
1 4gb Transcend SD
1 1gb Sandisk CF
1 8gb Transcend CF
All used for different things, and the same things (if you know what I mean). I travel a lot for work and have to carry large files from office to office, I have movies, audio books, maps images and data files all sorted in such a way that I'm generally able to access everything I need from one little case. The mini SDs allow me to use everything on my phone as well, and my Camera takes SD so can use that and store to the large CF as necessary. Sometimes I will take as many as 500 or so photos in one day, and if you are using high res they take up a lot of space but so far I seem to have enough room.

We are not getting too many replies, but I still cannot see people reserving CF slot for other functions like camera, GPS, radio, TV, cellphone, etc.

Also there are few people using Ratoc CF or they are hidden :hide:

It seems most of people are using CF for mass storage or not using it at all.

I don't think there are enough cheap devices for the CF slot to make it really viable except in a very specialist way. ie: barcode readers etc
I would have loved to have a camera for it, but the only ones available were expensive and not very good.
I would also like a usb host, but again too expensive and reduces the mobility of the AX.
By using card readers, and Card Export you sort of get the best of both worlds. I can go anywhere now and basically have my whole laptop in my pocket. I find that Card Export is the best thing I have put on my Ax, as it allows me to connect to nearly any computer and have everything I need at my fingertips.

Just my thoughts, for what they are worth.:crooked:

Just a 1 GB Lexar SD card with a mix of some programs and a lot of music (300MB left on it). Haven't used the CF slot yet; no need for space, but I'm also concerned about the extra space using a thinner card in the thicker slot. I don't want the chance for lots of dust, pocket lint, etc to get in there. Any suggestions about this?

How I use the cards is documented on my website, but since the SD card is easier to remove and reinsert it would seem to make sense to use that storage for anything that is frequently transferred such as screen shots.
