DOWNgrade (revert) from A12 to A06

This thread seems to have died without a REAL answer but I NEED one!!!

You guys are the best so I can't imagine that it can't be done!

AXIM x51v...I "upgraded" to A12 from A06, no problems but I DIDN'T look here first, I admit, to see that I wouldn't be able to restore all my APPS and right now I don't have access to the original files to re-LOAD them (I'm away from "home" for an extended period) SO, I'd like to, FOR NOW, go back to A06 so I CAN restore and then when I'm really ready I'll put A12 on and re-load, etc...

I know all about the SD-Card-flash-method and building an image and "dommes'" excellent tutorials and yours too, "makuu", and I've searched like crazy to do this on my own but just don't find anything definitive.

I've tried using HEXedit to re-write both the PC image and the Flash one to try to "fool" the bootloader but nothing so far.

SO...I'm pretty sure the problem IS the bootloader on the Axim is now for A12 and beyond so it won't accept A06 images either through the PC or flash.

I don't have another way to retrieve a working A06 bootloader, that I know of.

DOES ANYBODY have a solution???

Thanks in advance.

IF I was smarter than you guys I'd post some helpful hints of my own but it seems I've only come up with the ones YOU'VE already figured out!!!

PLEASE HELP!

I'm not sure, but your definetly in the right place! This is what Dell would say,
"Have you tried a soft reset?" Aximsiters should know.

Thanks for the reply...I'll guess that's a sort-of joke about soft-resetting...is that the standard reply from Dell's minions?

I have, of course, soft-reset, hard-reset and every-other-kind-of-reset one can do...including, but not limited to, standing-on-my-head-reset, biting-my-lip-reset and mumbling-under-my-breath-reset.

I have seen many posts about reverting back to WM2003 from WM5...I understand what they're asking but I've even seen "solutions" for that.

I've always had WM5 (Axim x51v) so "all" I want to do is go back a ROM revision. Why has Dell made that so irreversible and yet they recommend that everyone should do it???

What about Flashing from a SD card? I heard that you can force the PC to flash any rom.

All you would need is the A06 Rom and the software from the SD ROM thread. I would at least start there.

But I'm assuming you know that anything like this involves risks. Just be careful. I wouldn't get crazy and do something you aren't comfortable with fixing.

Hey!
Thanks for the input...yes I'm aware of the risks.
I also have to point out that I specifically mention that I know about the flashing from the SD Card...I've done it at least 15 times now, no exageration!:rolling:

I've even tried flashing with the A04 version both from the PC and the SDCard.

Everytime I AM able to go back to A12, no problem. It's like the opposite of what "everybody" else is having...I can install A12 and have NO problems all day long...but I can't install any APPS as I mention in my first post...

Thanks anyway...what I need is alternatives!
