Why are the X50v A00, A01 & A02 ROM updates all identical?
I have a need to rollback to X50v - A02, so I went to the Dell support site to grab the installer. The IMG file looked a little strange, so I grabbed A01 and A00 as well. When I uncompressed the archives, ALL THREE updates had the very same ROM image of AximX50v_A02EN.img.
Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone have a copy of A00, A01 and A02that they grabbed from way back when they first came out to see if they too, contain this image file?
Thanks

judt becouse it has same fileman doesnt mean it is the same. i suggest you md5 them and compare the checksums. if the checksums are the same when knwo that the file is the same, if they are differnt we know that the file name is the same but the contents of the image file is differnt.
BTW: if you need a checksum tool, then i recommend hashcalc which is freeware.

I already compared them - they are identical.
A00 - 96c0b2d071af2b988407b19ca7788593
A01 - 96c0b2d071af2b988407b19ca7788593
A02 - 96c0b2d071af2b988407b19ca7788593
A03 - f4ec02723868b41da6f5e3eaf39a7639
Used: http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/winmd5sum
Also, the french A00 and A01 ROMs are different but the link to the A03 ROM gets you the English version - go figure.
Essentially, the A02 English ROM IMG file seems to be stored in a different format from all the others, including the French A02, which has the same format as the A03 and newer English ROM IMG files. The header layout is completely different.
Has anyone seen this?

Bigbop, sorry, I don't have A00,A01 ROM from Dell or my own backup.
I do have A02,A03,A04,A05 from Dell, and it is all from 03/2005 to 08/2005.
I also have A02,A03,A04 ROM backup from my X50V.
I read that it is possible to recover the X50V via SD Card image. Not sure if this may bypass the check on the device id.
If you need any of my above ROM resources, let me know, I will host them.
All the best!

I would appreciate it if you could pull the IMG file from the A02 installer you have (use WinRAR) and get the md5 checksum using the utility I used above to see if you get the same checksum. What I don't understand, is why the header of the Dell A02 English ROM looks nothing like the A02 ROMs of other languages. The headers of the other languages look similar to that of the A03 thru A05 English ROMs which have a small block of zeros between the header and the data.
The English A02 ROM not only is missing the block of zeros, the header structure is different too.

Bigbop, the md5 checksum of A02,A03 IMG from Dell (downloaded back in 2005) are the same as yours.
