(X50v vs X51v) My X51v's screen "dips" and feels rough! Ugh!

NOTE: I'll try to post a video of the problem to more clearly explain it.

I just received my X51v from the Dell special a few weeks ago. Anyways, I immediately noticed a vast difference in the screens.

My X50v (with a Brando Ultra Clear) screen protector feels firm when clicking on it AND smooth to dragging the scroll bars

The X51v, on the other hand, feels very VERY unusual. Please don't say this is subjective, as it is beyond that point. The screen sort of "dips" down when I click something. The way I know this is two fold -- the feel of it & the reflection of the glare of the light in my room. When I push my stylus onto the X50v, it doesn't make any visible "circular distortions" in the light (e.g. it doesn't "dip"). The X51v, in contrast, bends the light and forms a large "circle".

Also, dragging the vertical scrollbar on the X51v feels very very rough, like you're scraping it or something.

I could've sworn I had seen something like this before. Has anyone heard/experienced it?! The Brando screen protector is not the reason...I swear! It just feels like the X51v's screen is a little 'seperated' from the bottom part. I can't explain it well!

Unless you received a defective 51v, I would agree that the display screen is a bit soft and "squishy" in my opinion. I have been a long term user of PocketPCs since 1997. I have had Casios E-105 & E-125, Toshiba e550, and iPaqs 2210 & 2215. All the screens have been firm and smooth. Some more smoother than others (the Casios were more of a matte finish rather the high gloss of the iPaqs). The Dell 51v is definitely different. It has some give while writing on it and tapping the display. I'm not quite comfortable with it just yet. However, I'm a new user. I fully expect to get use to it over time.

Yup, the screen are a bit squishy, but the dragging is the fault of the new stylus.
Just polish the stylus tip a but by rubbing it on a sheet of paper, while spinning it and raising the angle so you don't get any flat spots.
I had the same problem - just needed the tip smoothed a bit.

i have to agree. the screen IS somewhat 'squishy' ... i never thought twice about it (as this is my 'first' PDA)... the technology in the x51v's touch-panel is probably different than the one in the x50, for one of three reasons (that i can think of). firstly, i'd like to mention that the screens ARE different. they're different models, from what i understand to be true, so there will be differences in brightness/contrast/sensitivity, even pixel pitch is likely to be affected.

first, is of course, cost. the x51v screens might simply be "cheaper" than the x50v's
second, different technology. they're using a different touch technology that needs to have a certain amount of force exherted before triggering (thus "bending" the screen).
third, is resolution, maybe the x51v needed a higher sensitivity of touch panel and thus a different type of touch panel was used.

either way, it's designed to be like this and it's not likely to affect your experience any more than 'feel' a bit 'squishy' :P

I used my old X50v's stylus and it's the same effect. The dragging is just as bad.

I am REALLY not liking this new screen. I'm using both the X50v vs the X51v and the X50v feels soooo much smoother! I'm wondering if a replacement from Dell will help.

UPDATE: Looks like I spoke too soon. The "Dragging" effect is disappearing with a little use. It's the screen that was the issue, not the stylus.

I'm also getting use to the "baggy" screen, but my X50v's is definitely ten times better feel to it!

Got any (official) links to information to prove that?
