X50V memory errors which lead to soft reset or even Hard Reset!!

I don't know if this happen to other X50V owners as well but my Axim gave me many times of same error - "memory error..., press the INBOX to cancel.... or press CALENDAR to clear the RAM ...". (Can't remember the exact words, just something like that.)

And I ended up with over 10 hard resets in 2 weeks! Why? Because sometimes, NO MATTER which key I pressed, it would do a Hard Reset! I don't mind hard reset once in a while since I have a good backup and can always restore everything within 10 minutes. But 5 times a week (or almost once a day) is too much!

Called Dell 2 days ago but the support guy can only send me a so-called "workable unit" - they didn't even know whether it's been refurbished. I looked after my unit quite well and it still look like new, so I am really reluctant to accept an old/worn one.

Is there a quick fix for this error?

This error usually happens when the battery gets too low. Are you having problems with it turning on overnight and then the battery is real low the next morning? If so try keeping it on the charger at night. You could also try putting it on the charger for a few minutes before you hit the cancel button when it happens next time. It might be that the battery is so low that it just cant turn on when you do hit the button and it causes a spontaneous hard reset. If it does turn out to be a bad unit, don't fear the refurb too much. I have one and it was perfect. no marks or scratches. if you got one that looked bad you should be able to send it back if you wanted to.

Thanks. And you are right, it happened many times after I turned it on the next morning. I love to watch half an hours of sitcom, cartoon or whatsoever on Axim in bed before sleep, and then just turn it off. Don't bother to get up and put it back to cradle, but that ususally leave the battery level beyond 70% anyway.

Acutally I seldom let the battery goes below 50% (got a spare battery and two chargers to use in office & home). Did check the battery level when last two errors occured - they were at 57% & 70%. And manytimes it happened when Axim was connecting to the charger!

Anyway, if I cannot find a quick fix for it, I may have to get a replacement from Dell. Ask you've mentioned, it could turned out to be a very good one.

Thanks again.

There's not much difference between this two models except the RAM and OS. ..... Ok, I get it ! --- maybe it about time to upgrade my X50v to WM5?

Wait wait wait ... at least I should wait for the poll results (I put up a survery not long ago to get feedback from X50V users who have upgarded their Axim to WM5). That's exectly why I put up that poll!

Thanks.

Never seen that on my X50V either. Not to mention, no screen corruptions too.

I've only had this problem when I was doing battery testing for reviews, so I'd have to agree with bigdave. As for upgrading your X50v to WM5, you'll probably find you have more problems than this afterwards...
