Help! With Activesync

Ok...here is the problem:

I had Office 2003. I got Office 2007. After a few months of Office 2007, My Axim X51v stopped syncing. So I looked on the board here and saw people saying Outlook was the problem. I did a detect and Outlook 2007 said there was a conflict with 2003. So I tried to delete 2003. I couldn't. I tried to reinstall 2003. I couldn't. I finally called Microsoft. We spent over 4 hours. I finally ditched 2007 and kept 2003. Then, thinking everything was ok, I tried to sync. Nope. Said I was missing mapi32.dll. So, I tried to reinstall activesync 4.2. Would not not let me. Kept interrupting during install. So, I tried to delete Activesync. Nope. Would not let me. So I went online, found a download of mapi32.dll and installed it. I tried syncing. I got the message "the procedure entry point WNetEnumCachedPasswords could not be located in the dynamic link library MPR.dll". I have no clue what all that means. So, I tried deleting again...nope. I tried reinstalling again...nope.

So I am stuck. Please help me.

I can't offer much help. The Mapi32.dll problem is probably because there are several different mapi32's out there. IIRC, if you change your default email program to say, Netscape, a different mapi32.dll file gets installed (and consequently is linked to different dll's, etc.). So that error doesn't surprise me a whole lot. I do find it odd that you cannot uninstall everything.

To fix the mapi32.dll issue, I'd personally try uninstalling and re-installing all of Office 2003. (Might also try renaming or moving the mapi32.dll file you found.) And then verify that Outlook is setup as the default email client. I don't know if you use .pst files or strictly use Exchange, but please backup anything important to you before attempting this.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and uninstalling ActiveSync? Sometimes that helps be remove troublesome programs.

Those are what I would try first.

HTH,

Ok....I finally got rid of Office 2003 and have office 2007. I deleted Activesync and reinstalled. But still cannot get it to sync.while down in the lower tray, it looks like it is always working (the green is spinning) but when I launch it, it starts to sync, then suddenly closes and goes back to spinning in the toolbar without syncing. I cannot think of anything else to do. I am begging for help.

What version of ActiveSync are you using? Not that it is a sure thing, but the 4.5beta2 might be your best bet, although even it doesn't list Office 2007 support in it's release notes. Microsoft may have changed some API's or something in the latest Outlook incarnation. (Heaven knows they changed a lot of things in this version of Office.)
