Speech to text applications

Hello all,
I have been told that you can do speech to text conversions with Dragon Naturally Speeking. Has anyond done this? and if so, how did you setit up?

I am trying to figure this out for my son who wants to record his lectures and then convert it to text for his study notes.
Any help will be appricated!

I can't be certain, but I don't think any handheld devices have the resources to handle a true speech-to-text application. I think you need to record the notes in a .wav format and then have a PC convert the audio into a text file. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
