Help. Big problem with new x51v..active sync 4.2 causes loss of internet

This holiday season I upgraded from an x30 to x51v. I also upgraded to active sync 4.1 or 4.2.

however, i am having a major problem. whenever i start to sync, i lose my ability to connect to the internet. this is a major problem as i use 2 medical programs and both need to access the internet during synchronization.

i am running windows xp with a wireless internet connection. i had been using the x30 with no problems for 2 years. now my x30 is wearing out, and i thought it was time to upgrade.

i hope someone can help me with this problem. i have tried turning off my mcafee, but that doesn't help.

i am a healthcare provider, and reasonably computer savvy, but this is a big problem, and i'm not sure how to fix it.

1st thing I'd look at is your firewall settings. I use 4.2 all the time with my wireless internet connection active.

do you have zone-alarm as your firewall?
I know that cause problems sometimes.

The other suggestion that I have is to UN-check "advanced network functionality":

Start>Settings>Connection tab>USB to PC, then UN-check "Enable advanced network functionality".

Until I did this, AS would kick me and everyone else in the house on our network offline. This has to do with some kind of network connection used by AS that competes with your internet connection.

The X51 uses a network connection on the desktop for communicaitons. That would knock out the wireless, however now on activesync in the connections settings I see a box that says "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desk top" sound like the solution to your problem. I have not actually tried it.

Also if wireless is off and you connect then the X51 will have a pass through internet connection via the desktop network connection. Oddly enough setting the desktop's internet connection to be shared breaks this pass through - at least that was the way it worked for me.

I believe that Internet pass-through is not supported by default for Windows Mobile 5 using Active Sync 4.2. That said, I found a registry hack that seems to restore Internet pass-through (at least for me).

You will need to create a new DWORD registry value in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
with the name AllowLSP and a value of zero (0).
