The ax will (should) work with up to 4gb cards ... i'm currently using a 2gb Patriot Extreme and it's great - no issues. Perhaps some cheap or counterfeit 4gb won't work ... case by case basis.
Make sure you don't use SDHC though. Not compatible. Or at least you won't get the full amount if you are looking to use the 4gb SDHC or higher.
I've got a 4GB Transcend 150x SD card. Works like a charm!
Personally, I'd be curious what experiences others have had with microdrives in the CF slot. I'd like to put something there, but don't like the idea of part of my Axim's innards being exposed all the time.

Haven't used a micro drive, but I a Transcend 8gb CF card works great. Don't really understand what you mean about the innards being exposed.

i think he means that type 1 cards leave a small "gap" between the axim chassis and the card.
actually, come to think about it, that is annoying! *goes off to find a way to fix it*
Yep. So far I haven't found any regular CF cards that fill most of the way up, and I think virtually all type 2 (larger) slot gizmos are the microdrives. Though I suppose if I'm going to gripe about that I should gripe about the open headphone jack too. :bang:
I read on another site from a gentleman out in Oregon who I think cut out a strip of black electric tape to cover the gap. The only problem I see with that is that electric tape tends to leave a sticky reside after a time from the adhesive, though I suppose an alcohol solvent could remove it.
I have the x5, it has limitations that I know later models don't have. I can only access half of my 2 gig SD on my axim. My CF is a 1 gig,I'm not sure how big it can be.
