X50v Shortcut Target error on reset

I'm a recent Pocket PC user having come from several Palm machines.

My X50v (WM2003SE) has suddenly started to show two "Shortcut Target" errors after a reset.
The exact error message is:

"Error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename. "

It doesn't tell me what shortcuts it can't find or what target it can't find. I haven't installed any new software or changed any settings that I'm aware of. It just suddenly started doing it on Saturday morning after an activesync.

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to find out what the damn thing is trying to do?

How stupid to give out an error but not enough information to enable you to fix it.

Browse to \windows\startup on the x50v and see what links are there. Make sure they are still valid. If they are linking to a program on the expansion card, it may be trying to start it before the card is initialized. You can also download the trial of MemMaid to see all the programs/settings/services that start at startup. Just check each one to make sure they are valid. I agree, that is one of Microsoft's finer error messages.

Thanks very much. It turned out to be a Safe Mode.lnk shortcut which is part of Spb Pocket Plus. MemMaid seems rather good. Looks like a buyer to me.
