USB Device Not Recognised

Over the last week I have been having problems with ActiveSync. Where I have had to do a soft reset before connecting because it would say the was an error when connnecting to the device.

Now. I get a "USB Device Not Recognised" error when I try and plug my Axim in let alone try using ActiveSync.

So far I have tried:
- Re-installing Windows
- Re-installing ActiveSync 4.0, 4.2, 4.5 Beta, 3.7
- Soft Resets and hard resets.

I am now on 3.7. Although it will not connect windows detects it if you go to system properties and device manager it appears under Network Adapters.

I am happy (in a way) that windows is detecting the device, but It is not connection with ActiveSync nor is it appearing in the right group in Device Manager.

I have borrowed a friends Axim and cradle to rule out any hardware errors but no combination of either cradle or device worked,

Please help me! I must have spent atleast 4 hours trying to reolve this myself.

Thanks in Advance,
James

P.S I am using an Axim X50v with WM5.

Ok.

There is no firewall I am running a fresh install of windows xp home edition so I don't have any firewall or anti-virus software that could be blocking it.

Edit - Does anyone know what ports are need for ActiveSync

Doesn't XP load the Windows Firewall by default?

I don't know.
I have upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2 which has a fire wall and I am going to disable it and try again with ActiveSync 4.0

You may find the program easier to control by using a firewall; a new set up will plague you with questions about what applications can be allowed to access the ports and Internet.

However, I don't think that this is a port issue: Windows is not recognising the device. Try moving the USB cable to a primary port on the pc and make sure that it is properly inserted. Keep trying different ports and see if this helps.

Make sure that the pda is set correctly in the Regional Settings (Start, Settings, System (tab) and Regional Settings): if not, the pc won't recognise the device as it is set to the US by default.

Now that I have disabled the firewall I managed to sync my PDA using my friends cradle.

It looks like on my cradle the connection to the pda is damaged.
