Unrecgognized CF Card Solved

If you have had your CF card mysteriously begin to give you the 'Unrecognized card' and ask you for a driver name, here is your solution.

Get yourself a 4X magnifying glass and look carefully at the CF 'pins' inside your Axim. I had this happen earlier today. On close inspection two of the pins had managed to jam themselves into one of the holes on the CF card. After over an hour working with a magniying glass, a strong light and two very small screwdrivers I was able to straighten the pin (which had quite a curve in it) and get all the other pins move around in the process back where they belonged. Get some help unless you have a vice and a lighted mag light. I used my daughter for the extra two hands.

I had to Hard reset my unit, which had lost the touchscreen somewhere in the process, to get everything working again. My 4GB CF showed up fine once the system was rebuilt.

In future I will use the CF card as my 'extended' program storage and the SD card for moving stuff back and forth between the pda and my desktop.

I hope this helps. It got me working again.

Hope you all had good holidays!!

Interesting find. I'll check on that if my card stops working.

Are you sure you didn't slip the lock button during the procedure?

Another solution is to stop using TextPlus. Works for me!

Please note that you need to be VERY careful if you want to use anything metallic to bend the CF slot pins straight as some of the pins are live, even if the PDA is 'OFF'. That is to provide sensing of a new CF card being inserted into the slot in order to turn on the unit.
To be on the safe side, backup your PDa, remove the battery and leave the battery switch in the open position before attempting to straighten pins with a screwdriver. That way you have less of a chance of shorting out live pins and damaging the unit further.
