It's dissapointing. That screenshot does not show the axim in TrueVGA mode, that would give a major demonstration of it's resolution capabilities.
Also, unlike (any?) of the IPAQs, the Axim has a dedicated Video processor and can give VGA-output, which means throw in a travel mouse/kb and you have a pocketable desktop! Also, of course, good for Movies, or, more professionally, slide-shows/demos.
It is very hard to demonstrate resolution differences with photos. I was trying, but my camera not very good for that.
But no doubt, the difference in screens is huge. The first week when I got my Axim I always was thinking that it is something wrong with iPAQ's screen.

bah, iPODs suck, lame OS and soon you'll be able to get more storage from an axim than an Ipod! (64gb CF card, 40gb SDHC card = 104gb storage --- though the 40gb SDHC is not even prototyped yet, the 64gb CF card is a reality!)
@ Galina:
lol, there is something wrong with the ipaq screen, it's Qvga! Acctually, I'm told that the ipaq hx4700(?) has a better screen than the X51v, though I cannot personally confirm or deny this.

I only have a Dell Axim x51v and I have to say, I'm very impressed by it so far. It's my first PPC (I was a Palm user). Sorry, I can't be of any more help. The only gripe I have about the x51v screen is the backlight. It's too concentrated in the center, leaving a slightly darker tint around the edges of the screen. I wish it was more uniform like my HVGA TH55 (which it replaced).
True VGA is nice, but it's not good for people who have poor sight or vision. I had to give that up and revert back to standard screen. Also had some software issues and compatibility. Not worth it for me to continually toggle between the two. But even without true VGA, you can see the differences between QVGA, HVGA and VGA.
In terms of outdoor usage, it's comparable to all other devices I owned. Best results would be to use an antiglare screen protector. Only drawback is that it tends to dull the colours of the screen (it's not as vibrant as a naked screen or ultra clear screen protector).
Of course, looking through it with polarized sunglasses makes the screen look 'funky' at times.
