Need Help re-installing RegKing

Hi there. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to re-install the RegKing hack. I have used it for two years with great success--it REALLY speeds up the operating system on the x50v. Unfortunately, my system seemed to crash recently when I tried upgrading to WM 5.0 (although I just read a message that leads me to believe that I didn't wait long enough for operating system to completely reformat--message said to wait overnight).
Long story short, I lost the RegKing program. I went to the web site, downloaded the program to my computer, and now I can't seem to get it to run on the Axim. I have the program in one of the folders, but when I click on the icon, it gives me an error message saying "this program is not associated with an application". It's driving me nuts because I was able to get this program before. My system is slow as mollasis (? spelling) without it.

Also, any ideas on an easy way to sync data from the a 6 GB CF card to my lap top. It seems like the sync software is set up to retrieve data from the built-in memory on the Axim. The problem is, I try to store all my data on the CF card, that way the RAM or ROM memory is freed up in the Axim built-in memory for faster operating speed.

Sorry for the long-winded message. I'm not very computer savvy, and it takes me a while to explain things. Thanks. JAson

What kind of file are you trying to install? Is it a zip file or a CAB file? If it's a ZIP file, you have to unzip it first then manually copy the CAB file over to your Axim to install. BTW, RegKing is not supported for WM2003SE:

The easiest way to move data from memory cards would be to use a card reader. If you don't have one, try using the Explorer feature of ActiveSync to copy and paste your files over.

Hi there. Thanks very much for your response. I think it's a CAB/ARM file and I think I found some software that will transfer, open the application. The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is that RegKing isn't supported for WM 2003 SE. How could I have been running it on my x50v these past two years when the disc I received with it new was WM 2003 SE. Is it possible that it came from the factory with WM 2003 (not SE) installed, but they sent along the 2003 SE disc. I guess the bottom line is that I'm very frustrated because now my system is so incredibly slow since it crashed (it literally takes a minute for the device to pull up the word files stored on the CF card.

Any additional help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million.

Regards, Jason

RegKing definitely did NOT come pre-installed on your X50v, so you must have installed it yourself. However, I'm not sure why it worked well before and not now. Do you have anything else installed on your device now? Perhaps a conflict? And what OS are you running now? IMHO, the X50 series still works the best running WM2003SE.

If you upgraded your x50 to WM5, you must install only software specifically designed to operate on WM5.

When WM5 first came out, software wasn't written for it, and authors had to do major rewrites so their products would be compatible with both the older and newer operating systems (WM2003 and WM5, respectively). If you are installing the older (pre-WM5) versions of software on a WM5 unit, they will work horribly if at all. This could be the issue with the slowness you're experiencing. One minute is waaaaay too long to respond. Some of my heavy apps do take about 4 seconds to launch in WM5 when they took about 1 second to launch in WM2003SE (on the same x50v).

So, for all your favorite software, make sure you have the latest greatest versions before you attempt to install them on a WM5 unit. Most all of them are now compatible with both, but several exceptions exist where you have to download/buy the updated version - Sprite Backup is one example. I'm not familiar with RegKing, but when I just visited what I think was their website, there is no mention of WM5, only WM2003 and earlier.

WM5A02 has been on my x50v since 12/28/06, and is still working great (although not quite as fast as on WM2003SE).
