I felt this blog covers it very accurately in stating things like "it’s certainly not revolutionary" and...."Once you make this realization, it’s all about the software, your immediate thought is: So, how can I put (more) software on this. It didn’t take long for Jobs to answer that question: “These are devices that need to work, and you can’t do that if you load any software on them,” he stated in a NYTimes interview. In other words Apple is going to tightly control what get’s installed on your iPhone."
ok well the iPhone will lose to the axim in regards to being a mobile computer the OS on the iPhone will not beat the
OS on the axim.
And yet you missed the point (of the iPhone) again. The iPhone was not made to compete with the power or the OS of the Axim as a mobile computing device. The Axim and the iPhone, and this has been pointed out time and again in this thread, are two different devices. Apple's iPhone claims many things but it certainly doesn't claim dominance in computing power over the other devices.
The Axim will not beat the iPhone in sales. I boldly predict.

it seems like it is since both have mobile OSes,and theres always at least 1 or 2 ppl here everyday talkin about them just buying a new axim.
so??? is that any indication that iPhone's won't outsell the Ax? Don't tell me you think that the Ax will be more popular when the iPhone starts selling.
axim seems superior hardware wise (just like Sony's betamax), however apple knows how to market (just like rca and their vhs model).
the one big difference I see in this comparison however, is that one of the reasons betamax failed was because it was very proprietary (only sony made the players if i'm not mistaken) - so comparing that to this argument, the axim seems less proprietary because of its ability to run a wide variety of software. I would really doubt the iphone will be as "customizable" as our axims.
anyhow, that's just my rambling for this morning ;)
PS - I still have my betamax player and betamax video recorder stored away in my attic ;)
betamax and vhs are both video players. iPhone is a pda phone, Axim is a powerful computing device. Your analogy is far off.
Despite being "far off', I for one will probably buy an iphone when they come out. I changed from a Dell laptop to a Mac about 6 months ago, and love the OS. I really only use my X30 for PIM, some photos, and music, of which I don't run in any special player. And YES, I do have a seperate phone with Verizon. If I can combine my photos, music, and PIM along with my phone into one device, then I will. I may not be like a lot of people on this website, but from where I sit, the iphone is made me. (Yes, I'd be willing to take a different phone carrier, as I know it's only being made to run with Cingular). I had an X50v for a while, but found it pretty large for my suit pocket, so that I why I've stayed with the X30high for so long. By summer of 2007, if the iphone really is released when it's supposed to be, I'll probably give it a try.
I appreciate your opinion ZDG193. When I said it was far off, I meant the analogy, not one's prefernce for a device. I am neither an Axim or an Apple fanboy but I am a fan of technology and development. Therefore I welcome any device that comes out into the market and see it as healthy competition. The more devices out there, the more choices we have and they have to compete by lowering the price too. I just can't see why people bash one device in favor of what they have. To me it's a sign of being insecure with what they own. Either that or extreme fanboyism. If they don't like the device, they don't have to buy it. Many have made informative posts in favor of the Axim over the iPhone, but some are just plain ridiculous iPhone bashing. At the end of the day, everyone has a specific need. If for some people, the iPhone is perfect for their needs, then just be happy for them. I might not buy the iPhone when it comes out and might wait for the next release but welcome the idea of owning one. Good luck with your decision and as long as you're going to be happy with it, I'll will be happy for you.
PDA is dead... Open your mind to something new. Try the multi-touch. Meet the people who love iPhone. Dont resist it...dont try to justify why iphone does not have this does not have that... buy it...
