- even if it was, it's GSM. I use company supplied CDMA fluff.
- I use 30GB of storage on my iPod. To replace my iPod and my phone I want >30GB.
I think it's an awesome looking product though.

Yep, it looks awesome.
*Rogers charges $60 for ~50MB! :realmad: EDGE only too!

Yeah, what you said earlier to the whole iPod/iTunes thing is correct. Sorry for not explaining it more clearly in the first place but sometimes we know what we mean ourselves and assume that others will as well. Stupid communication. lol
I agree that this thing looks quite good besides what appear to be some potential shortcomings which:
1. Might not be since no one's really gotten their hands on this thing yet to test usability + it's still 6 months away with time to be improved.
2. Will hopefully get fixed in 2nd gen e.g. have HSDPA and bigger HD or removable battery.
I also agree that the screen would be a big worry for me in terms of scratching or breakage as well as fingerprints in general. You can get protectors and cases but the latter would be even more bulk to an already large device (even though it's a thin one).
It sure does look purty though. Can't beat Apple for that. I know I want to buy a Macbook Pro and throw Windows XP on there (ahh, the blasphemy!! lol) purely cause of aesthetics.
so what's the conclusion on 802 b vs g? iphone is b/g, does that mean it can conserve battery by switching to b or something? How fast is b and g? How fast is wifi, like the routers generally used by everyday users. Finally, how fast does an x51v download data?
Personally, I wouldn't use this for the music part - I've got players which have more storage and which work with BT headphones, for one. However, if it's as easy to use as a PHONE as it promises to be, then the extra web/movie/music functionality will be a nice bonus. Now, it just has to get up to Canada and possibly have an easy-to-charge/change battery.
Also, for those who say this doesn't have enough storage to be a dedicated music player - may I remind you that iPod Nano 2nd Gens top out at 8GB storage... just like the iPhone. They weren't meant to be the 'be-all and end-all' for carrying about your music collection' either, and they're selling DAMNED well nonetheless as either a light-weight and sport-friendly player or else as a supplement for your 60GB iPod when you want something that'll keep you for a day or so but isn't intended to carry around your whole music collection.
This is a supplementary device, or one designed for the casual user - not for a hardcore gadget freak, music freak, or PDA freak. It's not meant to replace anything, except that idiotic Motorola ROKR phone.... and good riddance to that.
Diego we can't tell if IPhone will download faster w/o having it around to test. Even if it claims to be 802.11g, it might not download files significantly faster than an Axim. There are many factors that could slow or speed up the process in the hardware for example.

Didn't read most of the forum but this caught my attention
Quote:
Nope, it won't run Windows Mobile software. I believe it'll need iPhone specific apps. Just like you can't run regular Windows apps on an Axim.
Yes Windows mobile has mobile specific apps, but the iPhone has locked apps similar to a iPod, even more so than a cell phone.
Almost no expandibility!
A lot of this is pure speculation, right? No body has actually tested one yet other than a few geeks a Apple, Inc.
But I don't think it's a big leap to say that the IPhone will out sell Dell's Axim and probably most other PDAs/Smartphones combined. As one of the other posters indicated the three or four types of people will buy it for various reasons.
I think it's safe to say that most of us here need equipment that works. If we require 2 (or 3 if you count a music player) devices, then we will have 2 or 3 devices. If you can find one device that works for you, great (see Rad's 8525). I just doubt that the IPhone will make inroads into the business environ.
