In three weeks, I will be embarking on two weeks of field work (geology and engineering) in the Utah desert. I intend to use my X51vfor note-taking (both written and audio) route tracking (gps and software to be provided by researcher) and miscellaneous other tasks. I need recommendations for the following:
1. Ruggedized case for use in a dusty environment with potential for dropping and impact.
2. Headphone for recording and listening to notes (bluetooth or wired)
3. Voice activated note taking software (there will be times when my hands will not be free and I will want to make a note)
4. Has anyone got any suggestions for interfacing with USB memory to extend its data capabilities?
5. Any other suggestions...I want the Axim to pay its way on this trip.
and a ziplock bag. Dust intrusion is going to kick its butt.
Magnesium case at a minimum, but the otterbox is a good idea if wetness is expected.

I have been contemplating the Otterbox 1900 for the Axim X51v and found a relatively good price here in Canada ($93.30 CAD), but want to see if there are any other options before taking the plunge.
I have the standard Dell 1100 mAH Battery Pack plus the Dell 2200 mAH Extended Battery Pack and a Radio Shack Battery Pack (multiple voltage outputs [3v, 4.5V, 6V, 7.5V and 9V adjustable output]) and I am contemplating how to use this with the Axim. Set at 7.5V this is adequate to power my Canon ZR90 DV Video Camera. Now complement this with a roll-up 6.5W/12V Solar Panel and I almost have the power issue cased (hmm all I need now is a man pack SNAP reactor).
I would definitely go for a water proof case - it'll keep both dust and water out of the device.
If you go for a Bt GPS device you can alway keep it in a zip top plastic bag.
I'm not sure if you can pair a Bt telephone headset and a GPS receiver at the same time, but if you could, it would make a nice solution.
If you're working during daylight, you're not going to get much time to charge the device with the solar panel , so how about charging another battery during the day so it can power/charge the axim and accesories at night?
[edit]
I've just paired my Bt GPS and Jabra headset. To my great surprise, both worked fine :)
There isn't much success with that even in the phone industry, but you could use Microsoft voice commands, I have no stories for this, and use voice recorder to record anthing in your own voice and play it back later.
