Worried startup lag normal?

hi

so ive been messing around with my x51v for a day or two now....
few problems/issues....

Ive set up the password thing, and i noticed that when i startup the device (as is from standby), there is at least a 5 second delay before the stylus is working....
whats with that?

For example, when the "enter passcode" thing comes up...

the stylus doesnt work on it for a while, usually doing a soft reset fixes it....

also another question
how do i shut down completely? i noticed that when i press once, it dims (then when i press again it lights up, and then the third time it turns off).

To turn it off, just press and release the power button. It never is really off, its just in standby. This is how most mobile devices work. Otherwise, youd have to wait for them to restart (soft reset) everytime you wanted to use them, and that would be a lot worse than the 5sec.

I think that 5sec delay has been a common prob with the x51.

i just tried out the power thing, works thanks...

BUT

the lag issue is really bugging me....
its a big longer than 5 seconds for me, came up to 20 seconds this time!!
is there a tweak or something? is my unit faulty?

oh by the hard buttons work fine, i can use them no problem, just the stylus :(

Does the lag happen when you, for example, try to open the Start menu for the first time after booting in?

when booting up (as in the one where you get the DELL and windows mobile signs)

but also when you leave the device for a while, and then come out of "suspend" mode.....
(but this lag is shorter, say 10seconds)

Have you loaded some Today plug-ins and/or a program that provide a "safe mode" start-up?

Under Start/Settings/System/Brightness you can disable the dim

Under Start/Settings/Personal/Password you can set the prompt interval to 0 minutes so that it turns off and locks as soon as you press the power button

Presumably these are similar in WM5 to WM2003SE.

I always associated the delay with the Today Screen/Start menu being popluated from apps in slow storage cards etc. However, it definitely seems much better after the A12 update?

That happens to me on 2003se. And i think the reason is there are icons for programs installed to the cf card on my start menu, and they havent been loaded.

B/c it didnt always do this, and doesnt after a hard reset.

Also, try switching off BT and WiFi before powering down.

Yeah. I usually make sure I turn off my BT and WiFi before "turning it off".

Are you running ROM A12? If not, go get it and install it.
