Im using Dell Axim X50 with Windows Mobile 2003 SE. I heard that WM 5.0 has a lot a benefits but since I read a lots of threads in here, I found out that i ll take a risk if i upgrade to wm 5.0

Should i stay happy with wm 2003 se or should i "upgrade"

I can't speak for anyone else but the only problems I have ever had with my Axim x50v was the short amount of time that I switched from WM2003 SE to WM5. It was terrible. I went back and will not go to WM5 unless I am completly convinced that the bugs have been fixed.

Will WM 5.0 work well with the X51v ? I'm thinking of upgrading from x50 to x51v.

When will Dell make the next generation of Axim ?

WM 5 remains in the wrapper.

Using WM2003SE on my Ax x50v, no problems.

Why invite trouble?

I thought Dell came out with a fix for WM5? You mean it doesn't fix anything either?

With the A02 version I think WM5 is very usable on the x50v. I have been using it for over two weeks now, without any problem at all. I much prefer the interface and functionality of WM5, and especially Persistant Storage is a tremendous plus for me.

I tried WM5 A01 three times, and went back to 2003SE each time within a week or two. It never worked well. With A02, I wouldn't think about going back to 2003SE anymore. I'd say give it a shot!

A related Question ... for the 'Lab Rats' ...

Has anyone tried to slipsteam WM5 A01 CD with A02 update to minimize the update to WM05?

This would produce an integrated/direct path from 2003SE to WM5 A02 without the treacherous A01 intermediate path.

I am also using X50v with WM5 A02. Had it for 3 weeks. There is still an issue with CPU going 624mhz because of filesys.exe, but the Axim still usable during this process if you are doing minor things. However, if you are playing a high cpu usage game, you will experience lag.

This issue pops up after installing new software and after using a web browser for some time.

I have learned that once I see lag, I leave the X50 alone until filesys.exe is done. Usually its under five minutes and then I am back in business. Reset does not help as it will start over again.

So if you don't install stuff dailly and do your work on Sd/Cf cards, you should be ok if you upgrade.

Initially I was hesitant to upgrade but overall it was a good decision.

WM5 A02 works good…the battery consumption is not a major issue since WM5 and WiFi will use more power…with an extra battery, no problem!

Go for it! :approve:

If you're interested in using the new OS and the new features, I'd recommend it. I've had no problems since installing A02, and I rather like the way the new OS looks and operates. It's been very stable and the only possible problem I've found was the processor stuck at 640Mhz which was fixed by using the fake server hack found here on Aximsite. The upgrade was of course slow, but painless if you follow the on-screen instructions.
