x51v: A Love/Hate Relationship

I recieved my x51v on Friday as a replacement for my bricked x50v :approve: . I thought everyting was great. I loaded all my apps and skins and was really enjoying the experience, until today

I've noticed that my battery, the standard 1100mAh, drains incredibly quickly. Wifi on with the 2nd dimmest screen, and processor set to auto goes from 100% to 20% battery in about 40 mins

. Now my battery came with the unit in Aug '05 so i'm hoping its just dying. I have a Mugen 1800mAh on the way.

Pocket weather won't show me the Forecast or Compare tabs. I just get the busy dialog and it just keeps spinning. Have to soft reset every time. All the other functions of the program are fine. I currently am communicating with SBSH over that matter

Pocket weather won't update the current conditions as of this morning. Was working fine previously. Not in the cradle connected through my pc's internet connection, not wirelessly at another site

I don't use bluetooth. When I press the Wireless button on the side of the unit, it activates bluetooth and not WiFi. This was never a problem on my x50v (always activated WiFi). For the life of me, I can't get that button to turn the WiFi on.

ActiveSync 4.2 has decided not to sync my Axim 1/2 the time. Sometimes it will and sometimes it wont. I either get the can't connect dialog or it just spins and spins like its looking and can't find. After 10 or 15 tries, I can get the two to play nice

Finally...I put several appointments into Pocket Informant 2007 today. When I finally got the axim to sync, i got an error saying those dates can't be transferred. Error Support Code 1. Never seen that before. Now after resetting both my PC and Axim, those dates still won't transfer. The system is acting like they don't exist even though I can see them on my Axim

Needless to say, I'm rather frustrated. The battery and pocket weather could be program/hardware specific and not a big deal. But when ActiveSync lets me down like this, I want to toss my Axim right out the window sometimes. I'll love this thing again if I can get these bugs worked out

Is your rom version A12?

Also do a seach for the "Activesync hack". That will help with your activesync problems.

I have ROM version A12. I tried the ActiveSync hack but that seems to have no effect on anything. Again, tonight I had to fight to get my device to sync and once I did, I got the error message again saying some things did not transfer between my PDA and my PC. Now those items are treated like they don't exist. There error message is below.

Also, I had several ROMS for an NES emulator (reliving childhood) and they were in a subfolder in the my documents folder. I look for them today and they are all gone. Completely vanished from the PDA and desktop like they never existed. This is very very distrubing to me. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get this thing to work without a hard reset in the near future.

Since I have nothing to lose, I just upgraded to ActiveSync 4.5 Beta 2. All of the info on my PDA that wouldn't sync before has. It was picked up first time so lets hope this might fix some of the problems.

Make sure you have the latest versions of Pocketweather and so on, I've heard a lot of old versions do not work well on WM5 which makes a straight upgrade painful as you have to go searching for compatible updates.

Update:

Pocket Weather is now working after uninstalling and reinstalling and clearing the cache.

ActiveSync 4.5 Beta 2 has solved my sync issues for the time being.

The device is once again workable and a hard reset seems to have been averted.

The only thing I'm curious about now is the amount of free RAM everyone has available on their x51v. Mine is 20MB after a soft reset then 14-18MB after using the device for a while. Is that a normal, workable amount, or it that low? Anything I can do to boost the amount of free memory? Thanks for all of your help and replies so far.
