Not a valid address...

Hello all!

I'm here on behalf of my Uncle who has a Dell X51v. The other day, we were playing around with it, because he is going to Georgia for a class and wants to use it for checking his e-mail. We connected to his network, and it was successful at connecting. He went to Pocket IE and typed in www.google.com, and it said it was not a valid address. Everything he tried, every address came up with that same warning message.

I wasn't sure what was going on, so I hooked up to his wifi network with my iPAQ rx1955, and I was able to surf right away. So I think it is an x51v problem of some sort. Any help? He doesn't want to take his laptop with him, just his Axim, but this address issue might hinder that idea.

You say he was 'successful at connecting' - what evidence do you have that it was successful? Does the X51v show a valid IP (probably 192.168...)? Can you ping the router? ...a computer on the network? ...a site off the network?

I'll have to ask him about it. He's not very computer literate, so it might take some time. As far as I can remember, I believe it did give a valid IP address, but I didn't ping anything.

Just a thought but have you made sure that he has "work" selected in the connections menu?

Settings -> Connections -> connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks -> Both options here should be set to work.

When I connected to my router I had an error message pop-up when I tried to connect to the internet and when I set both those options to "work" then it connected fine.

I'll tell him to try that. Thanks! I'll let you know what he finds.

I got an e-mail back from my Uncle, and he said it didn't work to make sure both connections were set to Work. Any other ideas?
