Fake Server Trick

Sorry if this has been covered. Did a search but so many threads came up that I finally gave up trying to find it.

I have a new Axim 51v with A12 should I still do the Fake Server Trick.

Thanks,
Bill

There are some who say you don't need it, there are others who say you do.
I did it "just to be on the safe side" and I haven't had any issues.

I also did it just in case. Haven't experienced any problems.

I can't do it, as I need to connect to Exchange server at work, but others did this to defeat AS from periodically syncing while cradled. Another solution to that problem is to disconnect the cradle from the computer and just leave the AC plugged in to charge the Axim.

I think the general consensus is that with A12 you don't *need* to the Fake Server Trick, but it still can help stop activesync from popping up all the time.

If you can be bothered to do it then it may be nice, if not then don't worry....

I have A12 and the other three updates Dell posted on my X51V and can't do the fake server trick. Every time I try the schedule still stays grayed out even though the fake server is accepted. With the X51V off ActiveSync still starts in the background and drains the battery at the rate of about 5-10% per day it is off. I can't figure out why I can't do the fake server trick and why ActiveSync is always running (Settings-System-Memory-Running Programs) will show ActiveSync running after I have stopped all program, turned off the X51V and left it for a few hours and returned to see what was running and found ActiveSync running and the battery draining at about 5%-10% per day. I have also set the X51V for full power off. At least it does not do a full drain of the battery like it use too.

I did the fake server trick on my x51v/A12 and it made no difference in how often AS wants to sync. Even with the "schedule" set to manual, AS does it's own thing.

As for AS staying running after you disconnect, I use Wisbar Advanced 2 and have it set to show AS as a running program in the task manager. The first thing I do when I disconnect the x51v from my laptop is kill AS. It frees up several MB of RAM.

I also stop AS before powering down using either SpB Pocket Plus cloase all or going to the Steeings-System-Memory-Running Programs and stop all before turning off the power to the X51V and I still see a 5%-10% power loss per day and when I power on and check for running programs will find tha AS is running. The X51V is also set for full power off.

Thanks everybody for your help. I'll probably give it a go when I get a chance.
