Well i'm on my 2nd day with my x51v, and i must say the first was very frustrating. I spent a long time playing with it and trying to get used to it. there are things i love about it, the beautiful screen for one. I downloaded PI and pocket breeze. having used palms for years, this thing makes my lifedrive seem fast. i can't believe how sloooooo:realmad: w this is to respond, it drives me nuts. thats one thing about the palms, they might be simple but they work and they work very fast. i dont know if im going to keep it yet, i will still give it a go. i have 2 weeks to try it........

Do you really think that Palm is better? I own a LifeDrive and just a week ago bought the X51v cause the LD is totally unusuable due to both it's slowness and inestability...
well i have a lifdrive, Tungsten T/5 and a Treo 700P. the lifedrive is the slowest of the palms but still faster than my axim so far. ive never had any trouble with my lifedrive, its been very stable.
I have the x51, I thought it was pretty quick for a fancy calculator. Since this is my first PDA. I am not sure what it suppose to do, but I am learning more and more every day. I like some of the features, it acts like an ipod for one, even though the cassette adapter seems to only play in mono. :rolling:

If it is slow it is probably due to loaded programs and how you have it set up.
If ActiveSync is loaded and running, it will make your Axim run very slow and lockup.
Use the fake server trick to solve other problems with AntiveSync.
Also, check your "running programs" and make sure you frequently "stop all" to clear them out.
Also, I have loaded all extra software and programs on my SD card and not in my onboard memory.
Take a look at some things, because I have loaded my Aximx51v down with some heavy medical references and it runs fast and sweet.
I use it on the floor all the time and when patients ask for info on medications or diseases my Axim is up and running with virtually no delay and is very fast.

P.S. The Aximx51v has been one of the best purchases I have made. I use it all the time and for my application with extensive Skyscrape medical software loaded, several others have purchased based on seeing mine. Along with that, many other Nurses and Physician are using them. So, if you have one and are not seeing the value of it, you may have purchased for the wrong reasons.
I agree with the last poster, there are several things that you need to do routine to keep the x51v nice and fast. I keep videos, ebooks, music, etc on a 2GB SD card that I just leave in there. Also, I downloaded Magic Button and routinely Close All programs using that easy button before turning off the Axim. I also did the fake server trick to end my ActiveSync from routinely syncing every 10 minutes; now it only syncs when I pop it into the cradle.

When I switched from my Palm T3 to my Dell X50V it took awhile to get used to the differences. However, now my paradigms are fully shifted. This documents my passage and frustrations and successes.
Perhaps the most commonly overlooked aspect of the PPC from a performance perspective is the fact that programs do not actually close, they only minimize. Get a task manager. SBSH iLauncher is what I use now. Spb Pocket Plus has one, too. Two free ones are MagicButton and vBar. There are links to them all on my website.

You have a 624 MHz processor here, got to be faster than your palm! You must have something running in the background all the time. I'm running DOOM on mine with no problem, as fast as a desktop, not the latest though;-)

The Palm PDAs are generally snappier responding even with slower processors than PPCs. The OS overhead and program sizes on the PPC needs the faster processor and more memory to accomplish similar tasks.
Nevertheless, the PPC should not be painfully slow.

It's probably never going to be as zippy as the older Palm devices (or an X30H running WM2003), but hopefully you'll come to appreciate what it can do...at a slightly slower speed. I've grown to love mine even if I get a little nostalgic when I pick up the old X30H.
Newbie question: where do you find the option to set your speed to maximum?
Also, in regards to the post above this one regarding the easy Close All button, where the heck is that?
Nick
Welcome to Aximsite!
Start>Settings>System>Power>Processor Tab
You can close all programs by using the memory manager (Start>Settings>System>Memory>Running Programs Tab) or a better method is to get a task switcher like the ones mentioned (Magic Button, VBar, iLauncher etc.)
mm
Edit: There is also a buggy task switcher included called Swithcer Bar.
