Wireless connections
I need help, hooking up my laptop was easier to understand than the Axim. I bought a SMC2642W Wireless 802.11b card. The drivers that came with it didn't reconize the card. But I found newer drivers and it does see it now. But now I don't know how to connect it to my wireless router in the house. It is a linksys WRT300N. Can anyone give me simple direcions to get it to work?

Make sure the N router is operating in B mode. If you have any security enabled, you may want to connect without it first and then add it in once the connection is working. The b card will probably only support WEP.

O.K. that was a start, :approve: I shut off security on the router. :hide: The Axim "Wireless LAN Setting" Shows Link Quality and Signal Strength at maximum. The auto Detected shows my routers ID. But internet Explorer still doesn't work. What's next? Don't let me forget to say thanks for at least getting me this far. :) Hopefully I will be able to connect soon.
P.S. I looked the router also works with G and B bands. :approve:

In the network settings - Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Select Networks and select "My Work Network" from both of the pull down lists. If you then tap the Edit... button under either list and the Proxy Settings (tab), the top box (This network connects to the Internet) should be checked but leave everything else on this page blank. After tapping OK, make sure both dropdown lists are still set to My Work Network and OK your way back to the Today page and then soft reset.
P.S. I know the router is capable of B but that doesn't mean it's set to use it although I assume that's the default setting. If you are getting a valid IP now (starting 192.168.), then that isn't the problem.

I called SMC and they no longer support this card, so I put it up for sale on eBay. It only has rivers for Windows CE. Thanks for your help.

Windows CE is the underlying platform for Windows Mobile. If your card was getting a valid IP, then there was no reason you could not have gotten it to work.

I am still new to Axim, I am beggining to understand what it does or can do. But if it isn't plug-n-play, I can get loss real quick. :rolling: I thank you for trying to help, but I did what you said and still got nothing I didn't have before. So I thought I would give SMC a crack at it, (Hmmm they must have the same tech guys Dell uses) :headscrat but they don't support it anymore. And for $30 I wasn't going to pursue it anymore. I figure I will sell it and spend a few bucks more to get one that is newer version. I couldn't find one on Dell's webite. So I guess I will search ebay more when funds become available.

The fact is, most of the WiFi CF cards are not being supported any more (people that want wireless on a PPC tend to buy devices with it built in).
I think the Socket cards (both CF and sd), Ambicom CF and Spectec SD cards are the only ones that I've heard that can work with the X51/WM5.

Well, too late to buy another Axim. So I will have to find another card. There are several on Ebay that claim to work with WM5. Soon as I dig up $50 I will pick one up.

Perfect Prism works with the X51 (and thus WM5)? That's good to know. I cannot remember anyone saying that before.
