What's the X51v's SD interface speed? Will a card > than 1.5MB/s (write) be faster?

Hi!

Just as topic... I'm about to buy this Kingston SD card that presents 5MB/s of reading speed and 1.5MB/s writing.

My question is... will here the limiting factor (both in read and write) speeds be the card, or would it be the Axim? I ask this in order to know if, getting a faster (more expensive) card would be better, or it would be the same speed since the X51v is limiting it...

Thanks!

In general there is little benefit to using a high speed card in the Axim, the benefit comes when you are putting a lot of large files onto it using a card-reader on your PC. Though from what I've seen in benchmarks done by myself and others the Axim can make use of speeds up to 1MB/s for writing.

There are benchmarks in the Storage Card Forum

also http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...=SD+Card+Speed

If you get the card, get a demo copy of Pocket Mechanic, as it will allow you to adjust the formatting of the card and then benchmark it. I've found both my 1GB CF and 4GB SD likes 16K clusters, though the SD is FAT32 the speed is about the same.

All I can tell you is that I saw a definitely subjective increase in PDA loading times from going Kingston 2GB slow card > Transcend 4GB 150x powerhouse card!

I'll second STISev. I recently upgraded from a 60x 512Meg Lexar SD card to the 150x Transcend 4GB SD card. The difference was like night and day! Programs that literally took 30 seconds to start (like Tom Tom) now take just a few seconds. Also, all file operations were much much faster. e.g. in TextMaker, I routinely work with 500k+ documents. I used to go get a coffee whenever I closed a document. Now, it just take a second. The faster memory cards make such big difference in usability, I wished I had upgraded earlier.

But how can this be possible? Isn't it supposed to be limited by the hardware interface / bus speed of the SD card port INSTEAD of the memory speed?

Could someone please explain why this is so?

Thanks!
