After watching the video I'm wondering if your digitizer isn't messed up. It seemed nice and snappy responding to the hard buttons so it doesn't look like it's busy doing something. The soft reset seemed a little slow but that could be due to today plugins loading up.
a hard reset every few months is the way to go. i have created a special folder on my SD card named "pocket pc restore", so if i have to do a hard reset, all of my programs/files can be retrieved. it mostly consists of .cab files though. there are 2 folders:
FLASH0 <- BIS
FLASH1 <- SD Card
so i just go to whatever directory, install cab to wherever it needs to be installed (files in FLASH0 get installed on BIS, FLASH1 on SD). very handy.
I have had my Ax51v since last August so I am certainly not a guru. However, after reading several posts on the forum about the duplicate notifications and the Odyssey client I finally sat down and heeded the info. My Ax was taking what seemed like forever to start up. After making sure the Odyssey client was turned off and then removing several items out of the notification queue my Ax now starts up in a few seconds and has done so for the last 3 weeks. I have now fallen in love with my Ax once again :) - that is how frustrating that startup time got.
Just a little info for those who don't know... From what I have understood from the various messages, the notification queue is where all the programs put things to be done on a time schedule - appointments, task reminders, alarms and many other program uses. So this list can grow for a busy person. The funny thing is that Odyssey had put a notification in the queue from when I first got my Ax. When I turned it off this stayed there. Removing it removed my problems.
I hope your experience ends up as good as mine. Go back to Oric's message for the instructions.

I also had removed OdCeClient from Startup Folder and notification queue and My Axim has been really fast and I have a lot of programs and today addons. Why don't you try it. I'm sure you won't regret it, but backup first!

I am not a current ax 5-50 holder but I do have an ax 3, I have heard about the notification queue as well since wm2003 has had similar problems from what I have read. The notification queue is only accessed thru an editor from my understanding and can really screw a system up if wrong things are deleted just like a reg editor.......
mem maid linkhttp://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14279
I use mem maid it seems to be idiot proof since I am able to use it :D. you can Google "notification queue" and find other software. I prefer to use something safe myself since I know it works.
hope this helps...:)

I did use Magic button and liked it a lot. But after I did an hard reset recently, I have not installed it againyet and find that the Switcher Bar that comes loaded in the x51v works very well now. I think that was one of the fixes with the A12 upgrade. It has the same "Close Current Window" and "Close All Windows" that Magic Button has.
No switcher bar has been there forever. people just don't see it.
Man paying 14 bucks for a piece of software i'll only be using once. Surely there has to be another way.
You can just download the demo and try it. It will allow you to fix the problem this time and you will know to buy it the next. I actually use Pocket Mechanic and use all the other utils that it has to keep my machine running smoothly. eg) Defragger, Duplicate file remover, Registry cleaner, etc.
"14 bucks" seems like a small amount to keep your investment of $100's working well. How much do we all spend on utils for our computers?
Upgrading to Activesync 4.5 lost my partnerships. I did a hard reset and reloaded everything. Ever since then, performance has been snappy for my x51v. A nice change from the up to 2 minute lags that occur when the unit was first used EACH day.
