Where do I order WM5 upgrade for v50?
Hi to all.

I have the Dell x50v and I'm thinking of upgrading to WM5 but it looks like Dell UK don't have it on their site anymore. Anyone know how I can order the upgrade?

If Dell are not doing it, I suspect ebay is your best bet. However, think very seriously before doing that upgrade....

I had an X50v and tried to upgrade it to WM5 with things just going horribly wrong and if you search on this site, you will find many people with similar stories.

I ended up selling my X50 and getting an X51v which is specifically designed for WM5. I have never looked back.

I think I may be slightly lucky but I can honestly say in the last 4 or 5 months, I can count the number of times I have had to soft reset it on 1 hand (not including software installs of course). However, I only use quality software like SBSH and Ilium on it :)

As Irem wisely says: don't even think about that upgrade :exc:

If you really want WM5 then get a X51v, but with your X50v and WM2003se you have a very fine, stable system.

Have a look around and you'll understand why ....

Hi,

I run WM5.0 on my x50v and I do not have any problem at all. The important thing is to install everything on SD card and keep the main memory free, that makes a huge difference. Works perfect for me.

The x50 was not built for WM5. Plain and simple. If I could, I would downgrade my x51v to wm2003se, but that isnt going to happen. lol

Yes, I'm sure that post does help with WM5 but there are no guarantees. You could end up bricking your X50 (can be fixed using the SD loader). It's really not worth the hastle.

By all means give it a go but don't be surprised if it all goes horribly wrong.

I PM'd and offered a free WM 5.0 Upgrade disc but I guess you don't want it now or did not check your PM's.
