Specific wi-fi setup question- Please help
I am using 2003 SE, A05. The problem is with my second axim x50v.
I am having trouble selecting which wireless network to connect to. After I turn on the wireless, the axim doesn't show me the "multiple networks found" selection box, but connects to the one at the top of its list. Now my trouble is, if I go to the configure wireless networks screen and long click on the network I want to select "connect," instead of connecting to it, I just get the screen for configuring it. Related to that, I tried removing from my list all the other networks so the axim could connect to the one I wanted, but they don't go away when I select remove. It's like those two options don't work.
I tried clearing the "automatically connect to non-preferred networks" option. In this case, the axim doesn't connect to any one them, and as above, selecting the network I want and clicking connect doesn't start the connection process.
I don't know what to do. If I knew what to delete to start over, I would do that. But somehow it's like it picked up what networks to connect to so it doesn't ask me when it finds multiple ones, and the right click menu I get to remove/connect doesn't work.
The other x50 I have connects to my preferred network automatically, so there's no problem with the network. Please help.

You have to be out of range before it will let you remove the settings. I'm not sure why it won't let you use the connect option on the 'Configure' page but it will preferentially connect to a network that it has connected to previously and will not popup a window showing 'networks found' as long as there is one it has connected to.
So, get out of range of the network it is connecting to and remove it's settings. Then go back into range of your network and activate wireless. It should give you the found networks window and allow you to chose your own.

Thanks Ike, I will give it a try. It's weird that the connect option doesn't let me switch the connection. It's just stuck on the network it chose.

I found out one thing that may be causing my problems. When you click on a network and say "connect" the dialogue box that comes up (configure wireless network) shows the network name and has a drop down box for what it connects to. Here, I think you are supposed to pick INTERNET or WORK. Well, my dropdown box is empty. When I go to connections from settings, the first screen, where there's usually a page with blue links for setting up internet connections etc is completely blank. If I click on the advanced tab, I get the network management screen, where you can usually select "programs that connect to the internet should connect using" and there's again a blank drop down tab.
I seem to be missing the "internet connection" and "work connection" deal somewhere. I think the reason I cannot select a connection of my choice is that I can't select the "connects to" bit with the dropdown box and I exit without having selected "internet"
I hope someone has an idea of how to get this back, otherwise I'll have to do a hard reset and reinstall everything I have.
By the way, I tried removing the connections already listed by going somewhere else, but the list showed only some of the connections I had from before, and none that I see at home. Since I cannot remove the ones I see at home when I am at home, I cannot get rid of the ones I don't want to force a pop up network selector.

I was going to point out before but didn't take the time, any networks that do not show when you leave their location have never been connected to and thus are not a problem.
You can add the Work and/or Internet settings back (or settings with any other name) by going Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Select Networks, then New...
Under General (tab) give it a name (such as My Work Network). You'll want the 'This network connects to the Internet' box checked on the Proxy Settings (tab) but everything else should be blank on this page.

I go through connections and define a new connection, but for some reason it never shows up in that list. I even tried using enter instead of the OK at the right top corner- I though "I must be canceling instead of confirming, that must be why it goes away." Unfortunately that didn't help.
In the connections screen, the tab that comes up first is tasks. When I fist get to that screen, for a moment a message flashes "inspecting device configuration" and then it disappears, leaving a blank screen. In the second x50, after I hard reset it I checked and there's supposed to be a display of various tasks in link format like "set up an internet connection, work connection, etc". This is why I am thinking there's something wrong and it's not just a matter of me bungling the process of defining connections.
Maybe it happened as I recovered in the past from hard resets or rom updates using the sprite backup. Maybe something else. I certainly do mess around with the device enough to screw something up, but this time, I don't know what to do.

I don't have any other suggestions beyond a hard reset. Certainly do a backup before so you can get back to where you are now if it doesn't work, but if it does work, you may need to reinstall any programs you've added rather than restoring.

Please don't be offended, as I did this same thing the first time I tried to work out all this stuff, but do you have Wifi turned on when you are trying to configure all this. The wireless radio must be running to set up the screens.
EDIT: never mind, I just re-read your first post and see that you do turn on the wireless first. Oh brother, I also suggest the hard reset, I had to do that at the beginning too when I had wireless connection problems; but the good news is after I hard reset, everything has been sweet, no problems.
