novice ?s re x51v (wpa tkp-aes)

Hi, there,

I just bought my 2nd axim last week. I've been having some problems related to wifi. Actually I haven't had a lot of time to look at it. I'm asking some preliminary questions. (Btw, I bought wificompanion and haven't done the update yet).


My questions are more basic:

1. I seem to remember that axim was 802.11b, not g. Does that mean x51 doesn't support wpa? (i use wpa tkp-aes on my linksys router).

2. when using a free hotspot, my old wificompanion detected networks, but I just couldn't get onto them. It was maddening. (When I do the updates, I'll check again, and hopefully figure out what is going on). But when I'm in IE, why doesn't it automatically assume that when I click a link or URL that I want to connect to wifi? (On my nokia 770, it automatically makes that assumption).

The Axim is 802.11b instead of G, but it still supports WPA :)

However, I think it only works with WPA TKIP encryption, not WPA AES. I was going to use AES instead of TKIP on my Belkin router but couldn't find a way to get AES to work.

try using oddyssey client to get the wpa to work. I have wpa set up at home and it works fine w/ oddyssey, but not with the regular wifi client.
