USB Webcam to PDA

I have this school project where I wanted to add a webcam to my pda but now I can't seem to figure this one out :)

1) Is there a way to connect a USB webcam directly to the PDA?
2) Can I retrieve live feed from a PC with a webcam to the PDA?
3) Some other way which is not too expensive...

Don't really know if a webcam can even be used with a PDA

Here is a thought. Why not use a wireless webcam and connect to it via a wireless access point then watch it via your wireless network, or connect directly to the cam with the PDA point to point.

I'm not sure how to hook this up, but I'm sure there is someone else out there that knows more about this than I.

Just a couple of alternatives than a directly connect cam.

Your cheapest bet would be to get an SDIO camera that goes into your SD slot. There used to a model that you could get for $15.00 + shipping, but I don't know if that price is good anymore. Look around in the Hot deals section and see if you can find it.

If you must use a USB webcam, then your only option is to pay $100+ for a CF USB host card. Here's a link to one such card: http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/CFU1U.html

If you get a camera, I think that MS Portrait allows for some video feeds. Not completly sure. Just a thought.

Anyone knows a good server software so that I can stream directly from the pc to the pda (server to client)? I need to get a better delay (1 sec max)...

OK I finally got it to stream within my LAN without almost no delay (less then half a sec delay)!

Using the following which is FREE :)

http://www.umediaserver.net/download.html

Follow these steps to configure:

http://www.soisanook.com/Urealmedia1.htm

I have to test it via the net to see if there is any major delay...

MS Portrait

MS Portrait will do exactly what you are saying in the post. You can still get cheap SDIO or CF Cameras that will work with your pda. Portrait is available from http://research.microsoft.com/mcom/portrait/. You can also configure the desktop to answer automatically. I have set this up and been able to video-conference with remote users via my Axim x50v & x51v. I did have issues with the HP SDIO camera with WM5.

web cam

I have the same questions and have been researching..
There are bluetooth web cams that are suppose to work with it.

I was looking for a usb connection of some kind because so many things i want to use with my X51V are on USB. Such as.. Mini harddrive, GPS, Another monitor. etc.

Only thing i found so far was a VGA out connection that i got on ebay that works great for hooking up to an overhead or Monitor.

Its the inputs im having problems with..

CF card adaptors are what i have found so far but have not purchased one to find out how it works yet..
like one person said there about 100 bucks or so.

Anyone knows a free streeming player for WM5? I got 8 min only on the Unreal Media Player before I get an error to get a licence (I don't want to pay for this since its a one time use).
