Wireless setup for Dummies???

I actually can connect to my home wireless WPA secured network and on to the internet. But I seriously doubt that the settings I employed are the "right way" to do it, and if I want to connect to the internet via any other network other than my home one (affectionately named "Buffy") although able to apparently connect to the other network, it will not connect through to the internet.

Though I can find a number of references to the x51v and network settings, the problem is that maybe there are too many and I find myself gallivanting off on pursuits of wild geese. Can a few of you seasoned veterans that know what is right and wrong point me to one or two solid all encompassing tutorials of wireless connections specifically for the X51v with WM5? For now my aim is when home to hook into my wireless home network and the internet, and be able when away to easily hook into a public access point and hook into the 'net. Maybe even download an email (Which I presently can do through "Buffy").

I suspect what has me confused is in one area I am supposed to set by what connection I am to hook into the "Work" network, vs the "Internet" connection (Why? I hook into the internet through my "Work" or home network, so why or what is the difference???), another enumerates about 7 flippin' devices, my AXIM network card among them, which I am to assign to one of these, then of course the selection of network connection screen where as I generally have my SSID switched off to feel a little more secure, I can select between my network and it would appear the wireless networks of the two houses next to us. Complexing the confusion is that I can select and connect to one of the afore cited house's networks, but when I try to update something like weather info (I am such an outlaw) through the connection to their wireless router, I get an unable-to-connect error messagem and instructed to review settings. When I go there it appears everything is related to dial-up connections, and I don't think I even know where my Commodore 64 is, so why?

As you can see, I am pretty screwed up. Please have some compassion, pity if you must, and give me a firm shove in the right direction...

Yes, that tutorial is helpful. Just remember, if it isn't your network, you may not get onto it as it may be secured. If it is a public free access site with no padlock on the network name, then you just press down and when the little splashscreen opens up over the network name, you click Connect. Good luck

WOW!

Thank-you.

Only problem I so far have now encountered is that starting on the first page of the referenced material there is a parenthetical statement:

"remember when you first got a 2400-baud modem and thought you were fast."

I hate to say it, but I remember 300bps and communicating via teletype terminals that would print out the "screens" on paper, for we didn't even yet have the monochrome screens in that university. When I did get a real screen, characters would scroll onto the screen. Not screens, not even lines, but character by character . I also have specific memory when 1200 came along and I thought I was flying. Back to reading...
