Dude! Tripod. Seriously, they don't cost much.....

That is pretty sweet though, can you somehow install this system without needing a working linux pc first?

Is it also safe to go between Linux and WM5 on an X51v without any data loss?

Woot! That means *nix for x51v is finally here???

Mokubai, I wouldn't worry about it anyways, if you do need a nix pc then you could just boot to a linux live cd and install. Not to hard ;)

Oh, I've got no qualms with linux, I used to use it on my main machine for a year or so, but it became a bore having to cludge together a load of rubbish just to be able to install a single printer or other device. Linux just isn't Ready For Primetime IMHO. I used to use Gentoo, which was a pretty sweet distro.

All I'd like is a way to run linux on my X51 without having to mess about with linux on my desktop.

I watched this video and am currently suffering motion sickness...I second the tripod (and background light).

Very cool that Linux can be run on the Ax.....would there be any software for it?

sorry about the shakyness, the other vids I recorded weren't so shaky but they had other things wrong with them. so I just uploaded the shaky one(better than nothing)

yep you need linux(i just used a live cd) to partition and format the SD card. and since there's no installer you have to copy and extract the files yourself.(not a very "user friendly process, but i'm no linux guru and I got it working.)

yes its very safe to go between linux and wm. it loads linux to the ram so all you have to do is soft reset to go back to wm.(but the x50v uses the ram for storage so running linux will have the effect of a hard reset) the only difference I noticed was the clock will reset and you have to set it again.

Many thanks for the info, is very good to think that one day my x51v might run Linux.

Thanks for heads up, the video is pretty cool and is most appreciated.

Oh, quick question, do you know if any of the processor scaling features work?

They worked on it a lot on their spring break. the mailing list was flooded. but now that its over there hasn't been an email in a long time. maybe next break they will add wifi, bluetooth, and sound support.

Sandi. The post is over two years old. I don't think I see Hoggie3 on these forums anymore.
