annoying wireless icon

Okay, so I am all excited, got my Axim running trying out my new GPS software, driving down the road and suddenly... 1/3 of the map is blocked out because I am "unable to connect to a wireless network." Well duh, I am driving on the highway. That is why I disabled the wireless when I got in the car! I have double checked the settings a number of times. The wireless is disabled and this message continually appears. I have resorted to simply pressing "okay." But it will return in a few mins.

Any help disabling the wireless from TRYING to connect when it is disabled?

I don't use GPS but what GPS software do you use? Perhaps there is an option in there for automatic GPS updating to your unit, much like the automatic ActiveSync schedule that we all know and love (and thankfully were able to fool) My Weather Panel app on my Today screen will automatically update the weather every so many minutes, hours, etc or I can leave it unchecked and I can update it. Maybe your GPS is trying to go out on the internet to update?

It is not the GPS program (iGuidence) it is the system saying it cannot connect to a network.

It can still be fault of the GPS program because it may be trying to connect to the Internet

I haven't seen this for a while but used to get a 'cannot connect' message when their email was set up to automatically check for new mail on a regular basis and the solution was to change the setting in pocket Outlook. I'm not sure if the location has changed (I don't use the default email so I cannot check), but it was:

Note, this will happen whether you've opened the Inbox or not. As an alternative to unchecking the box, I've found it will not try connecting if you make the ActiveSync account active before you close the email or leave your wireless network.

Right, that is what I was trying to say - certain programs for the Axim have options to do their thing by connecting to the internet on a regular time frame, which you can choose or completely uncheck so the internet connection is done manually by you. Yes, Outlook does still try and connect to the internet to get your mail, unless you have Outlook set up not to sync for mail (like I do); same with Weather Panel and several other apps - they try and go on the internet at regular intervals unless you uncheck that option inside their Settings screen.
