how do you align the screen?

How do align the screen on my x50v? The screen is misaligned after a few years of use and I can't access the help option because the screen has become misaligned. Thanks.

Thanks, problem is I can't push the proper part of the screen with my stylette. Maybe my screen is dead. Let me explain. My stylette aligns perfectly on the top 1/4 of the screen, as I trace down the alignment begins to drop off, the trace slows down, i.e., my stylette near the bottom but the line lags behind and stays more near the top. The bottom 1/3 of my screen doesn't seem to be working, and it seems to be more near the left side as it seems to work minimally when I push the very bottom Right side. Any idea's? Please tell me there's a fix other than a new pda. Thanks.

place the device in the palm of your hand, angled so there is minimal reflection on the screen and slowly adjust your metacarpals so that the screen is at an optimal viewing angle......:icon_rofl

---or---

do a Hard Reset* and as part of the reloading, the Align Screen automatically pops up.

(you might also try running a business card around the edge of the screen under the bezel...flickin it towards the center of the screen every ¼" or so, to remove any detritus trapped there and giving false readings to your touch screen).

* You DO have a backup saved to a Card or your PC, right?
.

no luck w/ business card. My ppc doesn't give me an option to align screen when I hard reset. I can manually enter into align screen by pushing on/off button and select button, but it's a never ending, perpetual motion of chasing the + around. Been at it for over an hour now without any positive alignment.

Do the crosshairs move after you have tapped the screen? If so, you may not be exerting enough pressure to align properly: don't get me wrong, I am not advocating fierce stabbing at the screen here, but a gentle increase in pressure at each point.

if you can open notepad, place the stylus in the center of the screen and slowly draw a line up or down and note the offset from where you draw and where the line shows up. (do this horizontally, too).

then try to compensate for this offset when you tap the crosshairs..

Check that your new screen protector isn't too big or sticking to the side.

The first thing I did was remove the new screen protector.

The crosshairs move appropriatly with very little needed pressure.

I do not need to offset my stylette to click the crosshairs. I can push the stylette dead center on the crosshairs with no problem getting the crosshairs to move to the next location.

that's part of the problem. while you're touching the crosshairs dead-center, the touchscreen is registering the "offset" for that value.

do your best to estimate the "offset" and touch there, to get the screen to register the CORRECT crosshair value.

you may need to do this repeatedly, but each time it should get closer to correct..

Yeah, that doesn't work either. It's possible maybe me screen went dead? Can the VGA/screen be replaced of fixed for a reasonable fee or am I screwed into to buying a new one?

you can check ebay for a "parts only" replacement, usually pretty reasonable. Just make sure the seller verifies that the screen still works.

The replacing is pretty easy, especially if you've ever tinkered with small electronic gadgets at all.

there are places that will do it for you, but the cost is probably very close to what you could get one on ebay from a dell reseller, and you'd get a warranty with that purchase from ebay..
