I'm convinced - so where do I get one (in less than 5 weeks)?

I put out a post a couple of days ago about how you feel about your X51v and I'm convinced - I want one.

So I go to the Dell website and it says it will ship 5/7/07 or something like that. Am I missing something or is that business as usual for the Dell PDAs? Is there an alternative source? I'd like one in the next week or two if possible.

Thanks

Tom

They said that to me. In reality it shipped in a couple of days. I think this is a worse case, if you do strange customizations, and probably only applies to PCs.

There's always good ole E-Bay, where I bought my x51v for $225 including cradle, AC power adapter, case and installation CD and still had 5 months of warranty left!! Just look at the seller's feedback, 99 or 100% feedback I would go for a good price. There are quite a few on e-bay right now.

I'm glad you're getting one!

I've ordered systems from Dell 3 times in the last couple of years. In every single case the systems were delivered well ahead of the promised time. It's really unlikely it will take all of 5 weeks to get it; you'll probably have it in 2.

It has never taken more than 3 days to receive from Dell Canada. In fact, I just had my x50v replaced under warranty and repacement arrived next day after phone call was made to Dell.

This is just the UK, but I didn't have to wait more than 2 weeks for either of the two units I ordered. They were both dispatched from the Netherlands or somewhere around that area, so it included international shipping.

One I ordered on the 2nd of December 2005, and would have had in my hand on the 14th if it hadn't been for courier troubles (both the other half and I work full-time so delivery can be problematic). The second unit was a few months later but didn't take much more than a week to arrive.

I still can't believe that after 1.5 years of owning this device it is still one of the best PDAs out there.

You could put an order for one in, and then IF it really takes too long, cancel and try alternative sources. (In addition to Ebay, don't forget the Classifieds here as well.)

My experience w/ Dell is that they always quote you the worst case scenario, but they generally shipped very promptly. Recent example, my x51v had to be replaced and they told me it would be delivered within 7-days and I received on the very next day. BTW, I do have NBD complete care, which is another benefit from ordering it directly from Dell - especially now that they will no longer be selling them; in fact I just extended my cc for 2 more years and only paid $35 for that. Completely worth it, IMO - that's the main reason I've kept buying all my PCs from them.

cheers

I'll chime in to say that my Axim (ordered about a month ago from Dell online) arrived MUCH earlier than I expected - within 3-4 working days.

Just ordered from Dell my 3rd x51v. Hope to get it sometime this week before a business trip next week to California. Go ahead and order from Dell. They're going for around 375.00. Not a bad deal. :approve:

I got my Axim last year and had to wait between 3 and 4 weeks for delivery of everything. There just were none to ship at the time.

You can buy the Axim51v plus the BT Navteq gps for $599.00
at Costco.ca and if your Costco member there is shipping charge.
It took about 7 days for delivery to my house.
You can still buy the extended warrantees also.

Hope you have ordered because, according to another post, as of Thursday April 5, they will no longer be sold by Dell in the US. Which means no new warranties.

So get it now, if you're still interested.

I just ordered one today via Amazon. It is cheaper than from Dell to boot ($350 =7 shipping). The dealer's name is "daily_bargains_4u". Amazon always backed up their business and he appears to have them in stock. Most of these guys drop ship from Dell, even though they claim stock, so their delivery dates would not be any better than Dells, but the prices would be.
