i was just wondering, why do all programs no matter how good or how bad always freeze or crash or have problems.
ive owned an x50v, and now an x51v. and yes it works great and i love it.
but still, ive never used ANY program unless like its picture viewer or word that have not frozen or screwed up.
what is with Windows mobile that just makes it freeze and crash so much. Why can it just not work normally. Why does the switch bar always have to screw up.
and even GSplayer, or Pocketplayer freeze quite often
if i turn my pda off, and then onn in an hr or so, i have a 50% chance of it just hanging at the loading screen of GSplayer when clicking to play a song.
its just so rediculously annoying how this stuff cant just ALWAYS WORK.
and with mp3;s its most annoying. Cuz i whip out my axim, turn it on, click on a song
and instead of playing it, the loading circle just goes on.
meaning:
restart your pda, cuz it wil just load forever untill nothing happens.

where do you store all these applications you downloaded, on the main memory or a storage card? too much on main memory will really slow it down.
Also, do you have the newest ROM vers A12 installed? There was a fix for Switcher Bar on that ROM vers. I don't use Switcher Bar but instead use iLauncher which has many features including switching between open programs.
Do you have any program cleaning applications installed like SK Tools? This is wonderful at keeping the entire system running fast and clean. This one I highly recommend.
I have a lot installed on my x51v but most of it is on my storage cards (2GB SD & 4GB CF) and as long as I have owned this Windows has never crashed on me or hung up. Maybe I'm lucky but I keep up my maintenance chores.
i don't use the switcher bar either, it cause hang up for me.
i use wisbar to close my apps.
have you tried "fake server" trick? that helps too if you haven't done it already.
The problem with Dell Axim (x51) is that there are quite a few things that you need to tweak before it will run wonderfully. So wonderful that you won't want to switch to another pda.

Really? My X50 almost never crashes. I run a lot of stuff on it, too. This one's been in service nearly two-and-a-half years. I seldom (only once in a very great while) have an application crash on this guy.

I concur, my X50 is remarkably stable and I rarely have to hard reset. The occassional soft reset doesn't do a great deal of harm but I only need do it every few weeks.
I think that a lot of the problem is that many of us think of the pda as a pc replacement: that's just not the case.
do you close programs when you're not using them.. or let them run in the background.. how much free memory do you have?

i do close programs and i am generally pretty good about keeping things open and managing allthat.
il try the sktool and the ilauncher.
i know i had that magicbutton thing on my x50v, and i didnt really like it.
The main thing that pisses me off is with the music players when the freeze.
GSplayer -, as i said has the loading thing come up when i click play and never stops.
pocketplayer- generally only crashes in the form of, not opening again once i minumized it.
and it will not open again untill i soft reset.
and IVE only hard rest like once in my entire life, however soft reset is pretty common esp due with the mp3 players.
those are really the programs that crash alot, sometimes streets and trips has problems where everything just disapears but it still works, kinda like the background is just green with no streets.
i just hate like walkin out ready to blast some music, and ending up being the guy standing in the corner of the hallway reseting his pda, and updating his list...

I use GSPlayer, and rarely have problems;
another very similar player is MortPlayer (I have this but mostly use GSPlayer),
it works as well for me, too.
Other than a recent snafu with ActiveSync, my x50 has been really smooth for the past 20 months. (I'm not counting the weeklong experiment w/ WM 5.0 - THANKS DELL!):bang:
I run most of my programs from my CF. I found BIS slow running programs. I also try to keep about 30 MB free for programs.
I tried SK Tools but have to give it a better test run.

I have a different experience. I have no problem with Pocket Breeze, i Launcher, Pocket Weather, Pocket Informant or the other dozen or so programs I use.
