I originally got mine from Abe's of Maine. Great place to deal with. They still show them available here http://www.abesofmaine.com/item.do?item=DLX51V
except is says "available in 14 days"??? If you want one call their 800 number to see if they actually can get them or have them. They are advertising them for $379

Sure enough. I just tried to go through the motions of ordering an X51v. Can't do it. Every link I click goes somewhere else. I finally found one page where the X51 (in it's 3 flavors) was displayed with "customize" buttons but each of those buttons took me to the Optiplex page. Looks like the Axim is history.

Oh well. I'll just keep using this one until it quits then I guess I'll buy something else. Too bad ... darn machine has been the best of all the PPC's I've owned, too.

Just checked the US Dell site, searched for Axim, and it listed 3 options, but clicking "Configure" and it asks what you want to configure, and the Axim is not listed; just other Dell things.

I just had a distressing time on the phone today with Dell customer service; I had called two days ago to extend my warranty two years and got a price of $79, which the woman said was for Complete Care. I told her I would call back in two days time (I had to think about my finances a while) and decided to do it today; also armed with the info that they are no longer selling my x51v. I spoke with a young woman today and told her I decided to buy the 2 year extended warranty for Complete Care and she said it would be $79 plus $40 for the Complete Care; we went round and round about why the woman two days ago said the $79 was for Complete Care, she said that lady was wrong. Then I asked since Dell is no longer selling the Axim line what will happen down the road if I need my x51v replaced and you no longer have any, even refurbished models. She said that they try to provide the same model but if there are none left, they would give you the next model up. I reminded her I owned the top of line already, and she said well, then they would give you THE NEXT MODEL DOWN!! I almost fell off my chair. I said are you sure, and she said they can only give you what they have and if they have no x51v's left then they would send you what they had.

My question, does anyone know this to be true, as I did not purchase my extended warranty yet, and don't want to now under those circumstances. Secondly, can they legally do that, replace your model with something of lesser value?? like a downgraded model?

I'd like to hear some opinons, and thank you for listening to this long rant :realmad:

That's $120, right ? I bet you would be able to pick a nice Ax with accessories in a year or two for $200 off eBay - when you need it, without having to worry what and if Dell would send you.

Offhand I'd say not to make a big deal over something that may or may not happen. They've decided to discontinue the product line - that's it. Stuff like that happens. Just use the box you got until it breaks (which will be a long time if you take care of it) then go buy something else. If we were talking about a $40,000 car here that might be one thing - but we're talking about a $300 (or so) device.

Maybe it sucks ... but it's a fact of life!

Well thanks to both of you, you helped me make my decision. I'm not springing for the $120, as you said, in two years time there will be a lot of cheap x51v's on E-bay and who knows what else will come out.

Now I feel better :approve:

That's just sad. No more Axim's. It used to be the best PDA out there.

Such a sad day. I just bought my Ax about a month and a half ago. It is simple the best PDA I have purchased. I bought a three year replacement warranty. How will they honor this. Did I just waste my money on the warranty?

Dell may have ditched their powerful PPCs, but the Axim name still lives on through us! Remember that!

The X50v I'm using may have already been surpassed by the X51v, but I certainly have no intention of giving it up anytime soon! The only superior devices are ridiculously expensive convergence devices not targeted toward the U.S. anyway, so it's the X50v or the X51v, and I normally couldn't afford either!

(So why do I have an X50v, you ask? The owner attempted to "upgrade" to WM5, but got hit with the 80% loading bug. This allowed me to get the device for a much lower price than usual. With the help of this forum's SD Image Loader sticky thread, I got it working again with the A02 ROM dump, and for that I am eternally grateful to the lot of you.)
