Is it bad to have processor set to 'Maximum' all the time?

Let me start off by saying that I deal with large files. Uncompressed TIFF files, a 300 page Textmaker .doc (in actuality, 200 pages on desktop pc-my thesis). I also love Pocket Player (though it's a resource hog, I know) and am constantly extracting data off my locally installed Lexipedia.

Now I know that the 'Auto' setting is supposed to adjust the cpu as needed...but I learned today that having it set to 'maximum' just gives me kickass performance across the board! I love this thing even more now...!

Then I read that the axims were being discontinued altogether...sucks.
So, despite the fact they're bound to be available on e-bay for a good long while, I don't want to shorten the life of my Axim, especially given it's set up perfectly right now.

So, if I continue to keep processor setting as 'Maximum' will I shorten the life of my axim, despite taking very good care of it otherwise?
I hope the answer is no.
thanks in advance for any info...!

nope, wont hurt anything. the only reason that setting exists is so that you can throttle down if you want to save battery power...

now that you've got it set up perfectly, do a good, full back-up and store it on your PC or Laptop.

that way, if you ever have to get a replacement off of ebay, you can just restore it how you like it and not have to do a complete set-up again.

I was actually wondering that today; if I could restore a backup on another x51v...I wasn't sure how specific backups were, if the hardware serial no. was somehow embedded in the backup or something....

So I guess it's doable then? More good news:)

yup, if you wanted you could backup on x51v and then restore it on an x51v with a differnt hardware id.

Sprite BackUp

.
.

HERE's how I have my Sprite Premium configured.

In my BIS I only have a most basic backup. Just enough to get my Axim back in a useable state, for me. If I were to have to use the OEM Configuration of the Axim......I would have to revert back to Complete Newbie Stage. I have no idea how to navigate in an OEM PPC Configuration.

My "Basic Configuration" contains User Info, SnoopSoft DashBoard (configured) and GigaBar (configured). These are the changes to the OEM Config that I have used on every PPC I've owned. Like I said, without them......I AM Lost! So I know I can always get back to something I can use, but since I rarely remove my SD Card, should I need to, I can always go back one or two days for a Restore.

And I copy my SD Card (via a card reader), to my PC and Laptop once a week.

Never had to use it yet, on my X5 400/A04. But just happy to know it's there if I need it.

I don't have Sprite backup, have done backups only using the regular Data Backup utility that comes with WM5. Aside from the extra step of having to Hard-Reset first before restoring a backup, I've found that it works perfectly.

Will I have any problems restoring a back up made with the built-in Data Backup program to another x51v?
Or is this something I need Sprite for?

I know a lot of people get very fond of certain programs because of added features, or nicer interface, whatever, but I really hate cluttering my ppc (and PC for that matter) needlessly if the software it comes with will do the job...

I don't think you will want your axim in 5 years or so anyway. they will be very outdated by then. I'm sure somebody will make something better then the X51v by then.(hopefully)
