Well, a lot of people who aren't as inclined towards using a very portable computer that's always with them, came back to the paper planner after flirting with Palms (not necessarily PPCs) for last 5-7 years.

I might've been one of them if I wasn't a PDA junkie and if I didn't hate the idea of not having my calendar and my check register with me at all times.

If one is organized (or disciplined) enough to carry a paper organizer with them whenever necessary, a PDA becomes just a very small and fairly expensive organizer that's sort of hard to write in (unless you need all the bells and whistles like I do).

I think you'd see some people moving back to paper, some moving back to Palm, some going to converged and some switching to whatever "true" PDA is still available. After all, if you only use your PDA for PIM, a $70 Palm isn't all that bad.

T-mobile UK offered me one of those 3G htc phones as a freebie if I siqned up with an 'unlimited' data tariff. And the 3G is amazing.

But after using it for a week all the time and then coming back to my axim, I'm amazed how good my X50v is. the screen is amazing, speed is fantastic, as stable as a rock.

I'll be the last to jump on "converged" wagon - I need a larger screen, a stylus, speed and RAM and I don't care for data plans.

I think PDA market will shrink but not disappear - after all, there's Asia and Europe and grey markets.
